I used to post on there for a bit but f*** me there is nothing positive on that website. I thought the GDT were bad sometimes when we were losing, don't ever check their GDT.

Like threads called "Does the StroShow blow" "Fire Jacoby" "John Gibbons thread + venting". If you guys get a kick out of people freaking out when we lose, check there forum

Does anyone else go on it?

"That board is without a doubt the most toxic community I've ever experienced.

No joke, I've seen people get banned for asking questions just because the Mods disagree with the premise of the question.

My account got banned on my 3rd post because I said that I hate how much Pat and Buck praise opposing players like Jeter and I wish they were bigger homers for the Blue Jays. My 2nd post was also about Buck and Pat but I can't remember what it was and I was banned because the mods said "all you ever talk about is Buck and Pat, we've had enough". Enough? 2 posts?

That place is horrible, it attracts the worst of the fan base and it's a perfect example of groupthink. Someone will say something, anything, that runs counter to the board culture and you'll get 10 people replying to you saying "ban" and then you get banned just for not being one of them.

EDIT: I should also say there's only like 10-20 regular posters there, they just post every minute so it seems like it's well populated but the crowd is always the same."

"They are some of the dumbest *******s on the Internet'

welcome to Toronto sports , what this man is talking about is called Maple Leaf syndrom

Exactly what I came here to say. I can't believe that there wasn't any comments about the homo-erotic culture here!

edit. After reading the comments on that link, I think Ferivich is TL

Ferivich is actually my husband, so I can confirm that it not TL.

Why am I being singled out here, this isn't me. I still visit the old Jays forum sometimes, but other than that have never visited the Reddit jays site.

This is not fair, I am not guilty of this.

I have never ripped this board in my life, Not here not on reddit.

I dont even like reddit, aside from visiting for Flash Spoilers, I have never visited the website.

I dont even rip this website here, even though I get constant bans. Never have Never will

This is the truth. Anyone accusing me of ripping the board on reddit is being unfair. I am not your enemy. I dont have the intention, the desire, or anything of the such.

It's just an extremely "advanced stats" community which is enlightening sometimes, but it also fosters a lot of "intellectual snobbery" because some of the members there ONLY take numbers based on past performance into account and don't take the human aspect very seriously.

There are plenty of users there just looking to argue about anything but you'll find that in any online community. Still, it's a good forum for the most part. Not for the casual baseball fan though, it's for diehards.

I tend to agree about the "human aspect"... but I disagree for the most part about the snobbery. I think most of the discussions around advanced stats are just that. The perfunctory nature of type written argument on message boards, texts etc. can be so sterile that it comes off as rude.

The problem is that a lot of the criticism against SABR people regarding the human element is based on extremely small sample sizes of how a player performs in 'clutch situations'. I think most SABR people would acknowledge that there is a psychological element to the game, as there is in any sport (witness the Texas meltdown in the 7th inning). However, I think it is very hard to reach conclusions about a player's psychological ability in these situations based on the information which is provided. You also see good players with a statistical track record of success in these situations being criticized because they fail in one or two key situations in the season and fall short of the Barry Bonds superman standard, who was probably the most unplayable player in the history of the game.

I would say it is much more complex than that. Events in peoples lives can have a big impact on how they perform. Peoples attitudes have a big impact. Stats cant predict when someone is going to start boozing again (Hamilton) or the type of player that is inclined to play through a particular type of injury vs. one that goes on the DL. Can you really say that Tulo and Price showing up on the Jays roster didn't motivate players to play harder last fall?

Mark Shapiro brought together a whole sports psychology department :)

So what you are saying is that you could have replaced JD and Bautista with me and GD and assuming similar motivation we would have done as well.

That analogy isnt even close, mostly because you guys would probably whine more than Bautista :). And the point was that the "human element" goes beyond simple motivation or playing in clutch situations (ie: alcoholism). But since you mention it, with respect to motivation: how about Tiger Woods who gets caught cheating and wife leaves him and he falls apart (then gets injured later but w/e). While stats offer a good measure predictability, being human does not.

I don't actually disagree with you with most of this...negative things can effect players and teams. But positiveness cannot make a player better than their true talent. In the end this isn't really an advanced stats or projections argument.

My thoughts on the Reddit Bluejays subforum:

Our Mods could so beat up their Mods.

Damn right, that's about the only thing I'm good for as a mod!

Exactly. This forum is a joke. People throw you on their IL when you have an unpopular opinion or they think you're trolling when it's just frustration.

Don't be so hard on yourself. I heard you can bake a mean bagel bite.

Why would you post on here if you think it's a joke. I don't enjoy the realgm forums, so I don't go on there.

I feel like we've had this conversation about the NBA literally 2 weeks ago

Why are you here then? Yes this board has some hive mind clique but you are free to not post here.

Reddit can suck my big white ass.

If you can't deal with people disagreeing with your opinion without resorting to childish name calling and incessant whining, f*** off.

I can also say who a doubt, nobody has banned here for just "asking a question" like the first post suggests.

It's the internet. Get a thicker skin or seek out anther site that is more to your liking where you can talk about players thigh thickness, Carerra's 4 for 5 day which clearly proves he's an everyday big leaguer, and how Pillar should definitely be leadoff with his career .310 obp.

If that's how you enjoy the game and dont like talking about the other 99% of what is actually going on, this isnt the place for you, unless you're actually wanting to learn.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and the people who run this site are entitled to ban whoever he f*** they want because it's their site.

If it wasn't a total bashing thread, they would have deleted it. I've seen more than one link to here deleted by insecure moderators lol. 4 of 5 members there have been a Jays fan for less than a year.

I just couldn't take 3 posts per page in a GDT that all started with a variation of "I'm nervous".
