glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Very calculated offseason by him: leave AA's team intact, add a few arms on short contracts. If they win, great. If they lose, it was the same group as 2015 and the new regime hasn't added a single long term deal. The best part is that that 95% of this roster is AA's baby. He added Happ, Chavez, and Floyd, basically. THe lineup is AA's, the bench is all AA acquisitions, the rotation other than Happ were guys acquired by AA, etc. He clearly wanted to rebuild imo but threw a bone to the fanbase. Now he's watching the previous GM's creation predictable age/decline, and some idiots will still blame him for it. I thought the off-season was very well played. This team still has a chance to turn things around, but if they won't, it will be easy to change direction. Thank goodness AA was gone before he doubled down on this roster even more.

If the team wins like 82 games and gets s***** performances from guys like Martin, Tulo, Edwin, Goins, and Colabello while also getting like 380 good innings from Happ and Estrada he can retool the roster while the fans will have the perception that AA left a tire fire behind.

Yeah, and if the Jays are going to miss the playoffs this year, I really hope they fall hard rather than stay in between (.500 ish) all season. Trading some of these guys at the deadline could yield good results. JB and EE will probably have no issues waiving their 10/5 rights mid season if the Jays are giving up, especially with the QO no longer an issue when they hit free agency. I want the Jays to either run away with the division or collapse. In between is what you want to avoid.
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 wow gibby's response to "whats up with estrada touching his arm and getting treatment between innings" was something like "stay out of the clubhouse and watch the game and you will be better off"... said in a low scary voice lol

Oh I see. If the team doesn't win, it's AA's fault because he left a tire fire. If somehow (despite the horrific tire fire of a roster left behind) the team does win, it's Shatkins who deserves the credit for adding depth that is supposedly far superior to anything AA ever did, even though its not. And so it's still AA's fault somehow, because f***, we have to blame AA for something this season! The moral of the story here is no matter what happens, to you and your ilk, AA was always garbage, except when he was an amazing ninja at the beginning and in the middle, and Shatkins is amazing until 4 years from now when he suddenly isn't anymore and the cycle repeats itself with dumbasses like you.

This is two posts in two threads that you tear down the straw man of me praising the new regime for the depth they've added. I'm not sure why you're doing this, but I made few (if any) such posts, and complained about the catching and OF depth all offseason, likely to the point of annoying the other members of the forum.

Given that I've now criticized the Chavez trade, the OF depth post-Revere trade, the decision to rely on Thole as the only MLB caliber backup catcher, and Carrera's continued presence on this roster, I'm not sure why I'm being lumped in with this "small collective" that heaps praise on the new regime at every corner.

Already sucking Shapiro and Shatkins off, even though they haven't proved anything yet.

I think you overestimate the fans; I don't think they'll have this perception at all. I think they're more likely to believe that with most things being equal: Shapiro just couldn't motivate the players the way that AA could because he didn't go through the growing pains with them and he's not Canadian like AA is and he's an outsider and what has Cleveland ever won? and why did he fire that nice Twitter man? etc.
Guy Verified Member Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 HAHA. f***ing pathetic 80 wRC+ for Pillar is not bad + defense + bSR Even Tulo is decent + defense, but of course we expect bigger and better things from him

In reality the last regime did some great things and some horrible things. The new regime has done some good things and some bad things. Basically it's a wash.

I think there was only 1 season where he didn't really do much in the off-season. Sometimes it was great, sometimes hindsight kicks ya in the butt but I honestly believe that if AA was still calling the shots that he would have taken a more proactive approach than Shapiro. I have to admit that I was a little surprised that the team didn't do more to build off of the success of the 2015 season.

TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 I realize he was being sarcastic. I'm simply suggesting that if AA were still in charge he likely wouldn't have taken the stand-pat approach that Shapiro took. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled some shocking blockbuster and shipped either Bautista or Encarnacion outta town. The guy did trade poster-boy Brett Lawrie after all.
