Can anyone explain the 1B tandem? They aren't being platooned at all. It seems like they alternate games. What the hell is the point of having two 1B (three if you count Edwin) on the roster when two of them are replacement level and one of them will always take up a bench spot that would be better served for a player that can play multiple positions?

 

If/when Travis gets back, I hope it's Cola that gets demoted. Smoak at least has a little bit of upside if they actually played him consistently, but man this one game for Cola/one game for Smoak thing is not helping either one of them.

I was really surprised it was kept up for another season. I mean I get that it's a cheap way to squeeze SOME production from the spot but it's definitely sub-optimal in terms of roster construction. Not enforcing the platoon just makes it worse. The bright side (as I've said before) is that it does leave the door open for Bautista to get more starts away from the OF though even that fringe benefit is negated by the current absence of a decent 4th OF.
