While guys like Pedroia and Kinsler materially outperformed their BIP-based productions, Devon Travis did so by an even greater margin — and doesn’t appear to have to possess a defining skill to account for the difference. Travis batted a ridiculous .747 AVG-.960 SLG (124 Unadjusted Contact Score, adjusted down to 91 for context), and an even more ridiculous .302 AVG-.362 SLG on grounders (172, down to 97). His many injuries seem to have whittled away at his offensive ability. I’m not terribly optimistic moving forward.

He's still great value at league min. but he certainly shouldn't be leading off next year. Hopefully he can turn some groundballs into flyballs too.

I'm more concerned that Travis seems to be hurt every year, even in the minors. It will be interesting to see how his career path ends up.

The methodology here is clearly over and under adjusting certain player archetypes. The 1B and DH cohort on the aggregate gained like 10+ points of production. 2B seem to have lost a similar amount.

 

That's not to say that Travis' indicators aren't concerning... but we can see the steps backwards without looking at contact quality. His BB, K, and ISO all took poor turns last year.

 

My point is that, yes, he took a step backwards, but doom and gloom probably aren't warranted. It was a shortened season.

 

On the DH side... Kendrys Morales goes from 110 wRC+ to 150 by this contact quality reporting.

That all seems to indicate he's likely not signing here imo and by mentioning taxes you have to assume teams like Texas are in on him.

I'd think it's his agent trying to get an extra $5m AAV or a 5th year from an interested team.

 

But you never know. Would be ironic if they came back to the Jays to negotiate now - after the Morales signing I'm not even sure we'd be offering $80m any more.

$80m wasn't enough for him to sign, if he thinks he should get Cespedes money he could ask for 5 years at a lower AAV than Cespedes got.

 

Though that doesn't mean a team will meet his demands of course.

Canada- Martin, Pompey.. I doubt Martin goes to play this time considering he didn't go last time

 

Saunders and EE probably play for their respective countries but who knows if they'll be back.
