I imagine if I were a pro athlete - I'd do (or what to do) the same thing all the time.

The reporters are always over-estimating their importance. You could get rid of all player interviews in all sports tomorrow and it wouldn't change a thing. People like the game itself, they like the drama that the competition creates. All the other stuff is fluff.

Jeff Blair said this morning one of them is Richard Griffin. Didn't catch the other name. One caller asked if one was Rosie D. Blair said no.

Rosie D isn't even a sports journalist so we can just dismiss that possibility

I was at the game last night and felt bad for Jose, he has been with the team since 2008 and even with Roy and Vernon they couldn't sniff a playoff birth until 7 years later with an older Jose, the Jays had the best hitter in his prime years and EE as well and they both gave it their all and finally we get a playoff birth last year and they're probably gone by years end, slightly bummed out.

The reports and media is one of the major reasons I no longer follow/watch hockey.

But seriously - can you imagine trying to get changed and Barry f'ing Davis is standing in front of you trying to ask you questions. GTFO Barry you insufferable maggot.

Why, for example, would the leaders on the team allow someone to put up on a wall photos of two Toronto sports writers with an 'X' scratched on their face and the a message written on top reading, ‘Do not grant them interviews’ (or words to that effect)?

On the surface, a pretty juvenile stunt. But also unprofessional. And it’s something, a couple of journalists pointed out to a Jays official, the New York Yankees would never allow in their clubhouse.

Yes because the New York Yankees and their "no facial hair past a moustache" policy are the pillars of free speech and self-expression.

What a stupid article.

At least Barry's just a jock sniffer. Some of these guys have axes to grind.

As long as John Gibbons finally gets fired

I can live with this season. My expectations in a playoff scenario would be low but I'm open to being suprised.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks the pictures with an X through them is really unprofessional and embarrassing?

Nope that's pretty cringy. I wonder whose idea that was. You would think there would be a better way to protest certain reporters than a picture of them on the wall with a red marker X on it. That comes off as childish.

Not acknowledging their existence would probably do the trick. A silent protest, like the Bautista/Sportsnet feud over Travis suit segment last year.

We asked for meaningful baseball in September, we got it

No we didn't. That's what Sportsnet journalists keep telling us but I've literally never heard anyone ask for that. Ever.

Fans want winning baseball. The more wins the better. And they want the cherry on top. That's it. Period.

I'd much rather watch meaningful baseball than whatever the hell you'd call the last 20 years of Blue Jays' Septembers prior to last year. I guess you'd call it pre-season tryouts.

I'd find it super entertaining of the Blue Jays players just did a media blackout for non-Rogers (Sportsnet and website) staff. Would be hilarious to watch the butt hurt exist.

5 second google search reveals the following posts from before our run last year about meaningful september baseball:

When the Jays play meaningful games, thats when the pros like Fatcow do the GDT. Since we're in September and the season is over, Fatcow deserves the month off :)

They weren't three games back of the pennant. They were 10.5 games back in the "pennant race" on the 1st of September.

Being three games back of the second wild card with only a few weeks left isn't exactly going to invoke a mountain of enthusiasm and excitement. Fans had the wind knocked out of their sails after the garbage August.

There would have been a lot more interest in the team in September if you swap their May record with their August record.

Bingo.

if you're leading your division or a game or two back goin' into Sept. (and ya didn't just come off a brutal August) then there's gonna be a baseball buzz in this city that hasn't been heard in 20 years.

Could you include Pat and maybe Buck.

That Pat is so bad some times I have to hit the mute button for a break.

Pat seems to inexplicably be trying to bring back RBIs as a thing people care about him. Almost every broadcast lately he makes multiple reference to RBI totals, or players being an RBI guy, which I don't remember him doing so much before.

Thanks for illustrating my point for me. Not a single person asking for "meaningful September baseball ".

So whats the consensus? How many do we need to win this final weekend to get in? I assume we are in for sure if we take at least 2?

People used to post all the time about how all they want is 'meaningful games in September', especially on the old forum.

You'd swear their primary objective this year is to renew faith in old school baseball. They complain about shifting in baseball EVERY SINGLE GAME. I'd love someone to do a video compilation showing every time they suggested the shift is dumb or that a player should flip one through the shift throughout this season...It would be both amazing and nauseating.

Honest question - do you think they get free reign to harp about whatever they want? or do you think they have a producer that keeps them in line and/or suggests what topics they should bring up. I guess what I'm trying to say is - is there a chance that someone from Rogers is telling them to push the old school baseball agenda because their research suggest it "speaks" to the majority of their viewers?

I'd be surprised if they didn't have free reign to discuss what they want.

It's terrifying that Buck used to manage this team. He's kind of an institution now, so I don't really mind him calling games until he can't do it anymore, but the idea that he managed an MLB team is so absurd that's almost unbelievable.

This article is ridiculous. The media can F-off.

"There was an incident the other night when a couple of journalists tried to corral struggling closer Roberto Osuna for an interview, but he kept blowing them off. Finally, one reporter followed him right into a private part of the clubhouse and told him off. Certainly something nobody, especially a young player like Osuna, needs."

Like - seriously? Obviously Rogers has a massive conflict of interest here, but the Owner should be sticking up for the players. If he works for Rogers - fire him. If he doesn't, then ban this ******* from setting foot on the premise every again. Media is the scum of professional sports and the second they forget that - you have to put them back in their place.
