Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Why not? Why not? He hasn't played on our 25 man this season, unless he gets called up today or tomorrow to become eligible, or injury, of course. Am I wrong?
vdartanian Verified Member Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Pompey isn't eligible. as long as he's on the 40 man roster (prior to Sept 1) he should be eligible for postseason http://www.thecubreporter.com/book/export/html/3549

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Remember Raul Mondesi last year? No need to be on the 25 man. With this knowledge, I think Pompey would be a great play as a 5th bench option as a PR, that's if the Jays don't go with an 8 man pen.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 30, 2016 Author Posted August 30, 2016 I can't imagine the org putting Pompey on the post season roster Is he even going to get a September callup for sure? And even if he does will be play much? Which puts him in awkward spot. They clearly don't want to call him up and not play. He seems stuck.

mellowgold Verified Member Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 We can do both with a 4 man rotation. No. We can't. 9 starters + 5 bench + 4 rotation + 8 bullpen = 26. Unless math works differently in northern Ontario.

And even if he does will be play much? His speed led to us almost tying the ALCS in gamd 6. He stole both second and third in a one run game in the 9th. In a corner hes still s better defender than Zele. Probably a better hitter as well. I see no reason why he shouldn't be on the post season roster.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 We can do both with a 4 man rotation. No I don't think so. Lineup- 9 Rotation- 4 Total=13 That leaves 12 players. So you can go with 8 bullpen/4 bench or 7 bullpen/5 bench. I'd much prefer the 7/5 option.

He was on the team last year and was restricted to pinch running, I don't think it would be a terrible idea the Jays are a slow running team

That's why all these guys will get called up, even if they don't play much.

It's completely redundant, especially with the options we have at the bottom end of the bullpen. Gibbons will likely only use four or five for the most part anyway.

Also I saw someone mention Goins as the 5th guy. IMO it cannot be Goins. Barney can be the backup IF just fine. Goins can come up if there is an injury. Pompey brings more to the table off the bench.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 It could work in the ALDS, with 3 starters. I seriously doubt we go with just three starters, especially when there isn't much of a drop from our #1 to our #4.

There are WAYYYY more days off in the playoffs due to TV BS. I think you add Pompey as the 5th bench player.

I think the org. essentially said as much recently. I'll see if I can find a link. But yes, this is assuming Sanchez stays where he is.

I know with Pompey included, he's not as needed, but Gibbons seems to like him for some reason.
