Yeah it's pretty dumb. Trout could/should have 4 MVP awards already.

Yep, classic example of why MVP and Player of the Year should be two separate awards. They need to recognize the guy who had the most impressive season in each league.

Trout can't win MVP because the Angels are one of the worst teams in the American League. So really as of now its between Donaldson and Altuve.

Not saying I agree with that but Trout would have to win the triple crown to even be in the conversation because the Angels are atrocious.

Machado is right there too.

I sometimes feel like I should start keeping notes of all the idiotic things people say at games. One of the most annoying today was this guy who kept suggesting that everyone just bunt down the third base line. And not even just when Saunders or Smoak were up and they were shifted over, but also when Martin was batting with a runner on third...and there were two outs. "Why isn't he just bunting up the third base line here? There's only one guy there. And even if he gets thrown out at first, a run still scores." It's just too much sometimes.

there was one chick at a game i went to who thought that players could advance on popouts or flyouts as long as they reached the base before the ball was caught. she couldnt fathom why the players weren't running on popups.

Shhhhh. Don't look now but the Orioles have quietly lost 4 in a row and are headed to LA to play the Dodgers.

I was sitting in front of 2 idiots like this during the Canada Day game. I was going to do a point form list of all the stupid things they said, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I had to resist the urge to turn around and yell or punch them the whole time, which decreased my enjoyment of the game. Like you - they were suggesting players bunt all the time, often with 2 strikes...

Were you at the game by yourself? I hardly notice tards and their comments when I'm there with friends. Haven't solo'd a game in years now.

I don't understand some fans obcession with bunting. Especially sac bunts. They seem to be the be all end all answer for all offensive requirements. The fact that you are giving up an out and that they often don't even move the runner over a bag resulting only in an out seems to get a pass at all times in the analysis. I like to see guys like Zeke drag one every once in awhile, and Goins needs to be able to SB, but that's about it.

Yea there are certain guys I'm okay with, Zeke seems to have the ability to put it down now and when there are none outs putting 2 in scoring position for JD/EE/Martin/Tulo mashers is a good deal (considering we lead the league in double plays). Not to mention his speed from the left side of the box gives him a chance to beat out the throw.

Any word on when Joey Bats will return?

Yes, after AS break at the earliest. Hasn't been able to take off the boot yet.

His bunt yesterday was so annoying. He would have been safe had he not short-stepped the bag. Granted, he flinched cause he thought there would be a collision, but man nothing he does ever goes correctly.

It also aggravates me that the team has a 1-slot hitter who can't be trusted to do anything in front of Donaldson. They'd rather concede an out.

With my 5 year old son. I'll get around to the list....you'll understand why I couldn't ignore it.

Zeke drives me nuts in so many facets of his game, but at 1 WAR he has been worth more than Jose for $500k. I want to complain and often do, but I shouldn't really.

At least he got it down though with a chance to beat it out. Like it or hate it, he did his job. I like that he took it off and on messing the defense based on the count. That backed them up a couple steps and gave him the chance.

While I totally agree with moving Zeke to the 9th spot, he really hasn't hurt us this year at the plate and I think suggested they are conceding an out is ridiculous. His OBP is a healthy .385, 100pts above his average (2nd highest on the team). He's taking his walks with arguably the most speed on the team and can score from first from an extra base hit behind him. All figures suggest he'll regress but I'm okay riding it out.

I was a little disappointed when we didn't try a squeeze in extra innings. Their corner infielders were way back and Barney was up in a good count.

A sac bunt is conceding an out though. Lake and Barney both get on against Kluber, but they have Zeke make an out instead of trusting him to hit. A guy you can't trust to hit shouldn't be getting ABs before Josh, EE, Saunders or Troy.

I'll agree that he's been way better than expected, but every play he makes is like an averted blooper considering his track record.

If Zeke would just knock it off with the crazy dives and keep the ball in front of him, that'd be great.

Keep in mind if he was batting 9th and JD 1, they'd still have him bunt in that same situation.

This is interesting, wGDP stat for Jays. I haven't read much about it but I'm assuming this needs a helluva big sample size for anything worth analyzing. Basically 0 being average at grounding in to double plays based on the opportunity (line drives omitted).

http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=c,6,34,35,36,-1,23,37,38,39,-1,40,60,41,-1,201,205,200,-1,52,51,50,61,20,205&season=2016&month=0&season1=2016&ind=0&team=14&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=21,d

edit: didn't realize wGDP was a standard stat column. Maybe someone can enlighten me on sample sizes for it.

His hitting seems to be dropping like Smoak's did. Still takes a bunch of pitches and has decent ABs though.

Yeah, that's because he had a 400 BABIP, it's down to 336 though and will continue to drop for sure.

He's a good cheap 4th OF who's getting more playing time than you want him to get, and he's being used too high in the order
