TorontonianJD Verified Member Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 So after last night's comments it seems Cecil's career with the Jays after 2016 is measurably over Whose comments?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Whose comments? this summarizes the tweets: http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2016/05/04/brett-cecil-doesnt-appreciate-being-booed-by-blue-jays-fans/

I've never been big on booing your own team's players, let them worry about the crowd riding them in road games. Cecil has been a great veteran for this team and deserves some respect.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I would never boo Cecil but you start off April 0-5 and you're going to hear some boos. It's the nature of the game. If he would just say some dumb s*** like "I would boo too" and then go out there and pitch better he'd probably become a fan favorite.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Toronto fans are some of the worst in the world when it comes to booing players at inappropriate times. Those booing aren't the true fans. Of course this would happen in other cities, but Toronto does have a large amount of idiots in the stands on a daily basis.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I'm surprised we didn't hear any boos after Tulo's dismal popup yesterday

Yeah it is pretty bad, embarrassing really. They will be booing Tulo soon.

South american soccer fans will boo you and then break into your house and kill you afterwards.
Jonzo Verified Member Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Anyone know if the Dome will be open for Fridays game? Supposed to be a beauty of a day.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 We're not nearly the worst in the world. South american soccer fans will boo you and then break into your house and kill you afterwards. Yeah worst in the world is rich. Among the worst for North American sports maybe but that's nothing on the world scale. Also this probably has a lot to do with the fact that I'm francophone but it just seems to me like the Habs have a huge, massively ignorant, casual following. I don't mean that as a knock on the Habs or Habs fandom in general but the casual fan is usually pretty ignorant and they have A LOT of casual fans.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Anyone know if the Dome will be open for Fridays game? Supposed to be a beauty of a day. Lets ask Stephen Broo - oooooooh right
Jonzo Verified Member Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Lets ask Stephen Broo - oooooooh right lol, I had the same thought..and reaction.
Yorkshire Blue Jay Verified Member Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 David Price would say if he doesn't like it then pitch better. While its never nice to hear fans boo their own players, what exactly does Cecil expect? Fans went crazy for him with his pitching perormance when he struck out McCann of the Yankees in September last year. Fans simply react to results! Do good things and they will cheer, s*** the bed and they will boo!
KinofChaos Verified Member Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I don't like the booing but what does Cecil expect? It's part of the job fans are allowed to boo players in frustration if they want, there is nothing good to come from lashing out at fans. He should have kept quiet or just said it's part of the game.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Booing your own players is what trashy fanbases do, like the Orioles and the Yankees. Keep it classy and support your team. If you don't like the product, don't pay to see it.

It's sad but Toronto's hockey fans are super bipolar and annoyingly outspoken, so this type of reverse psychology could actually work lol.

Great wrestling fans, awful when it comes to sports, though I did enjoy hearing them mind f*** Cueto in the ALCS.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Is it possible that EE is now similar to Frank Thomas who had a tOPS+ of 89? Granted, Thomas' tOPS+ still equates to a .927 OPS, but perhaps EE is officially a slow starter now?

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 What the hell is a tOPS+ Lol well I just remember people saying he was a slow starter so I looked him up on Baseball Reference (which was my first mistake) and went to the splits. It's OPS relative to a player's career batting line. So his career tOPS+ is 100, his tOPS+ for April is 89. Pretty horrid stat but it did what I needed it to do?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Going to the game tomorrow and saturday. Hopefully they open the roof.

I get it now.
vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Going to the game tomorrow and saturday. Hopefully they open the roof. It's been warm enough recently that they could sufficiently test it, so assuming the forecast doesn't change there's really no excuse to keep the roof closed either day.

Yeah the only thing I can think of is that they want to test the dirt infield to see how to maintain it when the roof is open.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I think they need a run of four or five warmish days to do their testing on the roof. You'd think they'd be able to start doing that any time now, but we might not have open air baseball here till the next homestand.
