jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Seems like Rogers is a very poorly run company. Its like half the executives have no idea what they're doing. These sports rights issues are hitting a number of teams and networks--look at the mess at ESPN!
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 John Sickels on Biagini Joe Biagini, RHP, Toronto Blue Jays Bats: R Throws: R HT: 6-4 WT: 215 DOB: May 29, 1990 Biagini was drafted in the 26th round in 2011, by the San Francisco Giants from the University of California-Davis. He’s been a reliable inning-eater but was behind other pitchers on the Giants depth chart; the Blue Jays snatched him up in the 2015 Rule 5 draft. He is a fastball/change-up guy, hitting 90-95 with the heater and keeping hitters off-stride with the softer stuff. He usually throws strikes, but his curveball is mediocre at best; this shows up sabermetrically as a low strikeout rate. On the surface Biagini has the body and track record to be a workhorse rotation arm. However, I think he fits best in the bullpen unless he develops a better breaking ball. He could be quite good as a middle reliever. Grade C. ADDITIONAL COMMENTARY: In Double-A last year in the Giants system he posted a 2.42 ERA in 130 innings as a starter, with an 84/34 K/BB. As noted he did a good job eating innings but the strikeout rate was low. The thinking was that his stuff could play up in the bullpen, where he could rely on the fastball and change-up while using his slurvy curve in shorter doses. Biagini threw nine innings in spring training, posting a 4.00 ERA with eight hits and three walks allowed, fanning eight. That's not excellent, but it isn't bad, either, and is a reasonable approximation of his ability based on what he was doing in the minors. At this stage Biagini is a generic mop-up/middle reliever. He'll need a better breaking ball to move beyond that. He's been working on a cutter/slider to compliment his other offerings. The key thing to watch for would be any spike in his strikeout rate.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Leon suxx after 2 hitters? - NO. The error was the situation-moment, not the performance. The error is the Jays not adding anymore arms to the BP in the offseason. Half the BP is pretty damn weak. The other half is good, but when you want to go cheap, you're going to start testing and throwing out guys in hopes they might 'stick'. Not always good for a team that is supposed to be in 'win now' mode.

Chavez, Floyd, Cecil, Storen, Osuna i think are all going to kill it down there Leon should only be used in blow outs or when your bullpen is over taxed and i am not sure about Biagini how good he is and Morales against lefties only. Gibby needs to know this and if not they are f***ed.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Osuna, Storen, Cecil, Chavez, Floyd, (and now) Morales is a pretty solid group. The arms were there. Gibby just decided to go with the fringe guy, the guy who is only on the team as DL filler.

Most bullpens have 2 or 3 above-average or elite types, 1 or 2 role playing types or LOOGY/ROOGY, and the rest is filled with long relief or league-average types. Without injuries, our pen would be: Osuna Storen Cecil Loup Chavez Floyd Biagini Pretty damn solid if you ask me. We should have picked up Blanton in the offseason though

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Change.org, the gift that keeps on giving: Petitioning Rogers Communications Give us back #OurSkyDome Petition by Randy Rajmoolie Mississauga, Canada 3,284 Supporters Sign Randy's petition I’ve started this petition to ask Rogers Media to bring back the name we know and love, and that means so much to Torontonians and Blue Jays Fans. I’m calling on Rogers to officially change the name of the Rogers Centre to the SkyDome or Rogers SkyDome. It’s time to reclaim the name that made the home of the Blue Jays so unique. I’ll never forget the first time I went to a Blue Jays game at the SkyDome. It was 1989 and I was 10 years old. My brother had scored us tickets to a Jays/Indians game, and when I walked in to the stadium, I was completely blown away. I’m not sure what I was more excited about – seeing the players who I idolized, or sitting in the huge dome with it’s super cool retractable roof. Even though it was a beautiful sunny day I remember hoping it would rain – just so I could see them close the Dome. It didn't rain, but lucky for us, they closed the roof at the end of the game. Everyone stuck around to watch. So many Jays fans like me have similar memories. So many people were upset and disappointed when Rogers Media changed the SkyDome’s name to the Rogers Centre in 2005, after they bought the stadium and the Blue Jays franchise. Why did they have to change it? What was wrong with a name that we loved and that symbolized important moments in our city’s history? The name SkyDome was chosen in 1987, after tens of thousands of people from across Ontario submitted ideas as part of a “name the stadium” contest. We were proud of our new one-of-a kind stadium. It put Toronto on the map, and we felt like it was truly our stadium, because we helped name it. The opening of the SkyDome marked the beginning of an exciting time for our city. From the 1991 All Star Game to Joe Carter’s World Series winning homerun in 1993, so many iconic moments in Toronto’s history go hand in hand with the SkyDome. We should celebrate and take pride in those moments. So many old fans returned during last season's phenomenal run, and were just not used to the Rogers Centre name. Will you join me and add your name? Let’s make the 2016 one to remember, so that new generations of Jays fans like my seven month-old son can make their own memories. Together, we can help bring back some of that World Series winning magic at a place we all know and love as SkyDome. #OurSkyDome. Lmfao, yeah I'm sure Rogers will get right on changing the name of a property that they own and gain recognition from because a few morons got up from their bowl of Cheetos long enough to click a button and do literally nothing else.

If the name changes to Rogers Skydome then people will just call it the Skydome or the Dome... you can't really call the Rogers Center "The Center". The name is a great one for Rogers because it forces people to keep the brand in the name for it to make sense. idk why people complain about this anymore, I call it the dome all the time
Sorrow Verified Member Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 The Rogers Centre and the SkyDome in my mind are two distinct parks. Rogers has put a tonne of money into upgrading what the SkyDome was both interior visually (repaint, covering concrete, new seats, removing windows), add the dirt infield and probably a new dome covering in the next few seasons to allow the name Roger's Centre. People need to stop living in the past, yes the SkyDome was a better name, but it's not the same park anymore.

I agree, I'm done with Skydome, that's filled with memories of Argos, Grey Cup, Monster Jam, Limp Bizkit concerts & a s***** concrete infield with original astroturf. This is the Jay's ball park now, move on.
