KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 lmao, he should join our health & fitness thread for some cardio tips. Even with the health issues, I prefer him to Jay Bruce but this kind of thing is a gentle reminder of why that trade was contemplated. It's not a about who's better on a per game basis. It's about total value. Now that we've seen how good Saunders looks this yeat, I'd prefer to put my money on him but there's a lot of season left. It's not a sure thing even now. Still a lot of questions left to answer. How much will Saunders play? How effectively will existing options like 'Zeke and Pompey fill any gaps left by Saunders? How much will Bruce bounce back offensively?

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Scott MacArthur Gibbons: Michael Saunders has tightness in his hamstring. Day off today + tomorrow = Should be fine. #BlueJays #MLB #Rays God, there goes Gibby's back up lead off hitter plan lol. Guy has never really been able to stay on the field consistently. Lets hope its nothing serious. He has been fun to watch. no Zeke. Italian or Pompey please
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Kind of a random ? but I figured this was the thread for it. Is Smoak actually any better than Colabello at defense? According to the metrics he is but according to my lying eyes it seems like Colabello has decent range. Made a diving stop this season and in the playoffs he did pretty well. Is Cola really THAT bad at defense and is Smoak really any good at all? I think Cola was pretty bad last year but it looks like he has improved defensively. How much? Who knows but the more the season goes on we will find out.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 OK that's not bad at all. Phew. A strain is a tear. His body is breaking down from a combination of PEDs and an extremely violent swing. o/u 80.5 games this year probably
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Donaldson's calf issues started back in Montreal. It's time we scrapped that s***.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Have you noticed an isometric K in his batting stance or is that just me? I took some grainy stills out of the 30 fps video that I took of my tube TV and yeah, there is definitely an iK. Really unfortunate. Good kid. Playing with fire.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Have you read your guy's review of Passan's book? He's been heavy on Twitter about it too. http://clients.chrisoleary.com/Pitching/New-Updated/Comments-on-Jeff-Passans-The-Arm I hang on every word that O'Leary tweets. I love his content. The combination of pervasive, arrogant pseudoscience and baseball twitter is just enthralling. This offseason was particularly entertaining because numerous MLB stars publicly trashed him or otherwise embarrassed him on twitter. McCarthy and Donaldson chiefly. Every week he seems to have a funny run in with someone like Eno Sarris. I can't wait to read The Arm.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Apparently the Reds were picking up $8mil of Bruce's contract, so the Jays would have been on the hook for like $1.5mil if that trade went through counting losing Saunders' $3mil. Depending on who the prospect was, that might have been a decent flip just for health reasons. Saunders is probably the better player, but factoring his health and the fact that Carrera looks to be his main back-up, I'd rather have taken a cheap gamble on Bruce. At least he might have actually stayed on the field.

Ceciliani or Pompey would be called up to fill that role.

Rooting for him is fun and Pompey is a good caddy. Bruce would be kind of a drag to watch even if he is more reliable.

Which isn't terrible, but i'd rather have a healthy Saunders I think. Hopefully Saunders is alright

The price depends on things like the number of social media platforms it will be used on and size of the image on the cover. The publisher paid $4k+ by the looks of it. Edit: Delabar's butt is on the back cover apparently. So I guess that makes the image use "larger than 1 full page" and the cost goes over $5k. Neat.

Smoak is definitely a guy who is no fun to watch. You know that he has raw power and that he'll tear into one every now and them but in between you see a lot of terrible looking PAs.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 I see a dead cat bounce back in Bruce this year... 3 WAR player... BOOK IT! P.S. That Justin Smoak comp is redonkulous!
