I think they will use Cecil and Storen in the 7th/8th based on matchups. If the 7th has a bunch of RHH due up Storen gets it, Cecil the 8th. If its the 8th than it would be switched.

Don't count on it when the simpleton Joe Rockhead is at the helm.

I like the fact that Cecil is locked down in the "closer" role. He should be the guy that comes in if there is any high-leverage situation. Even if its the 5th, if there's guys on base and 0 outs, Cecil is the guy I want.

Remember these gems from last year: Castro (Closer); Norris (SP); Sanchez (SP); Pompey (CF); Pillar (RF); Navarro (DH); Tolleson (U)

The bad decisions will work themselves out for the most part as reality becomes obvious to mgmt. Fortunately, our 25man is strong enough to absorb one or two really bone-headed decisions.

Predictions:

- Tepera will fail before Loup is back.

- Carrera will dive and miss some balls but will get cred from Gibby for the effort, wont hit worth crap and somehow sticks around until June when he is eventually dfa'd.

- Venditte will get called up after someone sucks/gets hurt and will be more than serviceable.

Add Osuna.

I'm not even sure how this could be considered a troll. Probably at least 28/30 MLB teams use their best reliever as their closer, if not all of them. Osuna is our best reliever, not to mention the incumbent.

I'm not sure he is our best reliever though. Storen's numbers are just as good or better and he got babip'ed pretty good last year and he fell off a cliff when the Nats took him out of the closer role.

The guy had great numbers as a closer last year but needs his ego stoked. It's a plus plus, good, cheap starting pitching is a pretty good way to go.

Nats fans seem to be of the general opinion that Storen was never really that great and choked in key situations regularly.

I personally think Osuna is the right guy to close. He wants to close, has been vocal about it, and did nothing but awesome things last year, including key playoff saves. Why fix what isn't broken?

I heard that as well. But I still would have given Storen the chance first to see what you thought of him. If he fails, you go back to Osuna. As much as its all about year, a forward thing plan usually works and Osuna starting, or at least getting the chance to, is probably the best thing for the Jays

let Osuna get a million saves and trade him for a haul. who cares.

That's where I stand. Given what RP's are worth now, let him rack up a s*** ton of saves and trade him for a haul. He'll have four years of control left at age 22-25 after 2016. One more good season and he should have a ton of value on the market.

I don't think he's ever going to start a game. If that's the case, then maximizing his value might be more beneficial to the team than maximizing Storen's FA value, which really does nothing for the team.

Or you know, keep him and have a good reliever that we can hopefully convince to stop being a dumb ass and become a starter.

These were also all stupid moves by the way, lets stop pretending like the organization knows what its doing it has no idea evidently if it lets John Gibbons hand pick the roster.

Brett Cecil is our best reliever...dumdum

I hope we re-sign Cecil at the end of this year. If not there will be a big hole left to fill.

Team will go through a massive rebuild at year end. With all the veteran talent leaving there is literally no point at keeping relievers.

Donaldson, Martin, and Tulo are leaving too? Or are they not veteran enough for you..

I suspect, although obviously we won't know until the off season for sure, that if EE and JB both walk Tulo will probably demand a trade out of here as well as was rumoured he did with Colorado.

Given that there is nothing on the FA market next year to replace them, the FO will then either have to replace EE/JB/Tulo via trade or start a full blown rebuild, unless they want to go back to the purgatory of 1996-2010 when we were not bad enough to tank and not good enough to get into the playoffs.

There's no real grounds for this assumption and it's the premise for what follows.

We'll probably have to end up trading them away. Kind of like Oakland.

It really doesn't feel like management wants to operate on a huge payroll. That's why they brought in these Cleveland scrubs.

Nah. Cecil is 3ys/24M RP. FA is his best option

They weren't really into the full rebuild in Cleveland. They'll probably put together a true talent 80-85 win team for a few years while the farm ripens and hope for some luck to push them to WC contention. There will be enough here for that:

C - Martin

1B -

2B - Travis

3B - Donaldson

SS - Tulowitzki

CF - Pillar

LF -

RF -

DH -

BN/possible starters - Goins, Pompey, Ceciliani,

SP - Stroman

SP - Estrada

SP - Happ

SP - Sanchez/Osuna?

SP -

That's about $85M, so they should have like $50M to play with.

Maybe they go to the market and give Happ/Estrada contracts to an OF/DH and an SP.

Colabello could probably be plugged in at 1B/DH.

Maybe Connor Greene 5th SP, Mayza, Girodo, McFarlane bullpen arms

Colabello at 1B. Jesús Montero at DH. Bluejays are going to send Montero to live with Cito in his broom closet for a couple months. He'll be our new Bautista to replace the old Bautista.

I still think Cola is super questionable. His spring was bad, at bats looked bad, strike zone awareness was bad. It was spring so of course the results are basically useless but he hadn't done anything at the MLB level until last season and that was on a 400+ BABIP. I'd be comfortable saying I think Smoak has the better offensive season this year.

I'm actually rooting for Smoak to run away with the job.
