KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Makes sense. Don't want him in a bench role. He'll get his chance.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 So, Junior Lake has to be the favourite for the 4th OF spot?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 So, Junior Lake has to be the favourite for the 4th OF spot? I would say Ceciliani has the inside track. Lake is just such a useless hitter, it's hard to see him providing value on either side of the ball.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 So, Junior Lake has to be the favourite for the 4th OF spot? I'm lovin Italian dude and it seems Gibby is going to give him a decent shot

I agree, Ceciliani looks like the more likely candidate of being this year's Colabelo than Lake is...
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Why no Dom Brown love.... Isn't he the one we couldn't have in the Halladay deal lol
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Why no Dom Brown love.... Isn't he the one we couldn't have in the Halladay deal lol s*** bat and s*** defense He's like 3rd on the depth chart.

Lake is just such a useless hitter, it's hard to see him providing value on either side of the ball. I'd much prefer to see Ceciliani. By all accounts he's a legit defender at all three spots, can run, and has hit a bit in the minors. He's interesting. Lake can't hit, or play defense. But he's out of options, so I could see the team keeping him up.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 So, Junior Lake has to be the favourite for the 4th OF spot? Lake makes more sense than Ceciliani being a RHB. He's a worse on D, but I expect Pillar to play most or all of the games in April so I'll take the better bat in LF.

At least with Ceciliani there's an unknown element and possibly the upside of a league average bat.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 So I assuming they build value for Saunders and try to trade again during the stretch run for relief help
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 s*** bat and s*** defense He's like 3rd on the depth chart. Sarcasm Bud hard to detect on here i know.

For me the big difference is that Ceciliani can apparently handle CF pretty well and Lake is a disaster.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 So I assuming they build value for Saunders and try to trade again during the stretch run for relief help Not if he stays healthy and plays like he can...... That healthy this is the big unknown. He has shown he can hit in the past when healthy.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 I think Ceciliani has a better 4th OF skill set. Looks like a good defensive player and base runner. Only issue is there won't be anyone to platoon with Saunders, but if they intend on playing Saunders everyday then it's irrelevant. Only thing holding Ceciliani back is options. He has options, while Lake/Carrera don't. We will see if that plays into their decision making.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 So, Junior Lake has to be the favourite for the 4th OF spot? Lake is a good player, but Cecilliani is the man

This is a competitive team and we are talking about fungible 4th OF types, I don't see why options should play any consideration. None of these guys are long-term assets, just pick the one that can help our team the most right now. Ezequiel Carreras and Junior Lakes are a dime a dozen.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Lake is a good player Huh? Maybe in your buscone butt buddy beer league, but in the majors he's a worthless turd.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Not if he stays healthy and plays like he can...... That healthy this is the big unknown. He has shown he can hit in the past when healthy. Isn't he entering free agency after the season?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 I think it comes down to is where the 4th OF gets his playing time. If its in LF vs LHP then Lake makes more sense. I can't see Pillar getting many days off in the early part of the season so being a backup CF might not be a big factor in the decision making process.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Huh? Maybe in your buscone butt buddy beer league, but in the majors he's a worthless turd. Wait and see. He's a great athlete with some upside bat, and can run very well...... but can't catch the ball. We can get something of value from him ALA Juan Francisco

And no, I didn't make it up. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/francju02.shtml

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Because we love having all RHB lineup? I don't see any other reason for it... I suspect the great majority of backup OF at-bats in April will be against LHP at the expense of Saunders.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 s*** bat and s*** defense He's like 3rd on the depth chart. 3rd in the depth as 4th outfielder... that's something to write home to mom about. lol
