Conversely...Who will have a breakdown season?

Ie. Who are you expecting a lot from but for one reason or another, you think will have a rough go of it in 2016?

Stroman. Believe me that hurts to write. He's one of the likable ones on this team.

I see him as having more of a chance to breakout (AS, Cy Young contention) than to breakdown.

My breakdown candidate is Bautista.

Funny you mention that. I was thinking the same. I hope it doesn't happen but he himself has been talking up defying the aging curves. There has been all this talk about him being in great shape and stretching (as if somehow this concept is an epiphany not duplicated by other pro ballplayers and provides a Kevlar vest against age/injury).

He missed big parts of 2 seasons in his 5 year deal and last year his shoulder.

I'm sure its beneficial, but there is only so much one can when you are 36 playing O and D in a long, grinding season.

I think Michael Saunders might have a great year, and be offered a QO at year's end, or an extension part way through the season. I'm not kidding.

Yeah, I'm with you. I love the guy, but I'm guessing he has very middling stats for 2016.

I wouldn't dare offer Saunders a QO, even if he puts up a 4 WAR season

There's no such thing as a bad 1 year deal. I'd offer him one if he put up 4 WAR without even thinkng twice.

Bautista hasn't had repeat injuries. The guy is unique in the work he puts in with his body in the offseason. I don't think many players his age put the work, in terms of both flexibility and strength training, that Bautista does. He's going to have a monster year this year.

I think expectations for Stroman are a bit high. I think he will have a good year, but not as good as some are expecting.

It's not really breakout, but I think Tulo will have a good bounce back season.

As for breakdown... I'm thinking Russell is really going to struggle with the bat this year. Him or Edwing.

What leads you to believe he will have middling stats?

Suprise of the year A.J Jimenez as a solid Backup catcher and stays healthy all year.

If it keeps Thole out of the lineup, I am all for it!

Probably the same odds of him getting poked in the eye with a pool cue after a game ending his career. Anything is possible when your name is Michael Saunders.
