burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 And go with no depth? Pitchers get injured. Would you rather have Hutch or Chavez end up pitching when someone gets injured, or a chow ming Wang? You are forgetting if you don't sign Estrada, you still have money to spend.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I wonder how many of those minor league guys can leave if they don't make the big league team? I think of that list its Hernandez and Penny.

D.J. BluRay Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 I personally think the Jays overpaid for both Happ and Estrada. Would way much rather have Gallardo over those 2. I always got the feeling that Estrada was getting by with smoke and mirrors and that eventually the jig would be up. I personally would have been thrilled that he provided 1 good year and then parted ways.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 And who are you signing to start for 13 avv? I would have signed a guy like Blanton and used the rest of the money to improve elsewhere. I think Hutch and Chavez are are as good if not better than Estrada.

He's younger, consistent/proven track-record, guys almost a lock to give you near 200IP a year. Am I missing something here? Even his FIP's been steady and consistent.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 You know its bad when Gruber agrees with the Hivemind.
D.J. BluRay Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 Lol.. What's so bad about Gallardo? He's only getting about 12 million on a 3 year contract... You guys seriously prefer Estrada and Happ for what we paid for them?
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 You know its bad when Gruber agrees with the Hivemind. Exactly what I was thinking haha

D.J. BluRay Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 Look, I'm not saying Gallardos some stud... I'd just rather have him on his contract over f***ing J happ and Marco Estrada... I think you guys are really overvaluing them.
King Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I think everyones way too excited about Happs SSS time in Pittsburgh. I think its more likely that everyone knows Gallardo's a shitbag.

D.J. BluRay Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 LOL@ you guys thinking Marco Estrada and J Happ aren't shitbags.
D.J. BluRay Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 You're aware that Gallardo is the only one of the three that cost a 1st round pick, yes? Yeah, it's a tough thing to give up, but I think that's why he's getting as little as he... apparently there was some issue with his physical though, if' that's the case I'd avoid him.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Yeah that Hendricks trade wasn't the best. That's also interesting about Happ getting more than Gallardo; I didn't think of that before. I honestly might prefer Happ but you would think Happ's market would be smaller than Gallardo's. Happ was 28th most valuable starter in baseball last year and came without draft pick compensation. Gallardo is s***. Odd to see some surprised that Happ got more...
highhard2 Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I gotta say, I'm a little disappointed with the construction of the rotation... Dickey?...Marco Estrada?....J Happ?.... Gavin Floy...or whoever? Aside from Stroman I really have no faith in any of the other starting pitchers. I guess the idea is that the Jays are gonna pummel the opposition each game with offense?... Not a bad plan as these bats can surely manage that. I'm especially surprised that they resigned J Happ... And a little more surprised how positive the reaction of that was here... Sure, he pitched well in a small sample size in the NL... But we've seen him over a long sample size in the AL East getting his ass rocked- my bet is he's gonna be the same old gas-canny #5 kinda guy again. And Estrada, yes he was surprisingly good last year but if you look at some of his advanced statistics he's a prime contender for some BIG regression... Especially when you consider that the leagues gotten to know him better. And Dickey? Who the hell knows what you're gonna get out of him, but age isn't on his side. ON THE BRIGHT SIDE: I don't think Hutch is as bad as he performed last year. I really can't see him going the way of Romero or whomever. If given the shot he should be able to provide some servicable time with #3/4 stuff. Sanchez is also super young and I think he should get another look in the SP role. Sure, there was things to be concerned with when he started, but he still managed to get by by the skin of his teeth and showed flashes of excellence. He was after all a 21 year old kid, experience is priceless. In reality: I'd like to see a trade of EE or JB for a good starting pitcher, OF and some prospects to bolster the org... But the rotation seems filled up with mediocre, newly added depth... so it doesn't appear the "Cleveland Boys" are going to take that route. Still, Would have been nice if they attempted to get a top-tier guy to replace Price. Hell the Shark or even Leake woulda been nice. The one silver lining,if there is one, is that if you judged it soley on the last half of last season you would have one of the best starting four in baseball, and a decent chance at having an at least average #5. There could be worse things on a team that projects to have an above average offence, defence, and bullpen.

D.J. BluRay Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 Yeah, that's what I'm saying though. Theres gonna be a lot of pressure on the offense to replicate what they did in the 2nd half of last year... I can't see this rotation winning many 3-2 or 2-1 games.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I expect Happ to be Happ and pitch 140 innings of 1 - 1.5 WAR ball
