reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Or do you underestimate them? Ballplayers don't fall from storks, mate? Don't be stupid. If you look back at what the majority of posters expect for some former prospects, and compare that to what the Jays actually got, the general consensus at the time would be that the team made a terrible trade. Obviously the Dickey trade didn't work out, but some idiots were actually expecting Nestor Molina to be a good pitcher, and Travis Snider was going to be a legit stud.

Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 more useless garbage from Shill-piro
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Really though, I like this more.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Really though, I like this more. What more? s***ing on the new Staff? I know it's your gig, but...
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Nice. I know this is just depth for AAA, but it would be nice to see how Floyd could do in short bursts in the BP, especially considering Cleveland was beginning to try that with him last season.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Nice signing. I like the depth being built, as Gibby can piece together the #5 slot with windows of hot stretches from the added arms being brought in.

Seems like a waste of what little starting depth the team has. That being said, recent health issues could force that change.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I remember that, that was a like a year before the new board was made. I was looking for it. I could have sworn it happened in like...2011 or something.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Hmmm.... Is this 2012 lol. Depth is good likely better depth then having such names as Rogers, Redmond, Wang, Ortiz, Laffey all getting starts lol
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 This whole time I thought Gavin Floyd was a lefty. Keep confusing him with Danks.
puphood Verified Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 It appears the #5 spot is covered I feel so much better now.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I'll give you Snider... but... lol. I really thought Lunchbox was the real deal. With that baby face, it seemed like the ball just jumped off his bat. That's why I'm not a scout. Good no risk signing on Floyd
quizang Verified Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 we might as well sign Tim Lincecum now lets bring all the fragile players we failed to acquire during their prime
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Signed Aardsma too. These signing aren't anything special but are necessary when you have zero talent at AAA.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Apparently it's a major league deal...
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 @GideonTurk Source: Blue Jays sign Gavin Floyd to Major League deal. $1M base salary + $1M in potential bonuses based on active days on roster. I'll wait until a more reliable source reports this, but if it is in fact a MLB deal, then you'd have to think he's being converted into a reliever. Maybe a long man.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Don't really like the deal if he's guaranteed a Million $
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Seems like a waste when you have a battle of like 5 or 6 pitchers for that last spot in the pen who likely will be just as productive. Whoever it is probably isn't seeing meaningful innings anyway..

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Its $1M. Who gives a s***? Rogers lol.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Its $1M. Who gives a s***? It's no big deal but I was a bigger fan when I thought it was a MiLB deal. That being said, Shapiro and Atkins would know a thing or two about Floyd from their Cleveland days. If they've concluded that he's worth a MLB deal as a reliever than they've come to that conclusion from a place of knowledge.

He probably could have signed anywhere on a minor league deal so giving him a 1 mil MLB deal was the carrot to entice him to come here. 1. Stroman 2. Estrada 3. Dickey 4. Happ 5. Chavez LR. Floyd AAA- Hutchison AAA- Sanchez AAA- Diamond ST Guys- Hernandez, LeBlanc, Penny That's not half bad considering only Stroman, Dickey, Hutchison and Sanchez were the only 4 under contract entering the offseason. Teams used on average 11 starting pitchers and 21 relief pitchers in 2015 so the more depth the better.

A healthy Floyd is probably a reasonably effective arm. If they even get 5-10 starts from him before his arm falls off and they have to turn it over to a fresh Chavez/Osuna/Sanchez, that's $1M well spent.

I think Chavez is the long man and Hutch is the 5th starter with Sanchez likely in the bullpen. If Sanchez wins the 5th spot then Hutch is in AAA. Chavez Floyd Loup Sanchez Osuna Cecil Storen That seems like how the pen will shake out. Maybe the rule 5 pick bumps out Floyd or Sanchez so they can start in AAA.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I'm excited the Jays have some decent depth
