Chappy Community Moderator Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Kawasaki filled a need for this team. We now have Barney who is superior defensively. It's fun to get caught up in player personalities, especially with one as great as Kawasaki, but let's face it, Kawasaki didn't really add much to this team and he isn't a player in terms of what actually matters (on field play), that we should even blink an eye over losing.
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 While not someone you would want starting at second base for a full season, he did have value as a player. From a front office perspective he was amazing value. Someone that cost $200,000, that you dont play everyday, but fans come to see him and buy his jersey. And sure he takes a 25 man roster spot, but who would we have replaced him with last year? Oh right Pennington. Yeah I hope we can replace him with someone better, but as a fan I enjoyed watching him play. His home run is in my top 10 jays' home runs of the last few years. Good luck Kawa... [insert saikei rei]

TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Mark Shapiro is ruining this team. That was the exact headline on the Jays Fans Facebook page about this...only it wasn't sarcastic.

How do you know I wasn't laughing because he's funny? If I laugh at Jerry Seinfield, is that racist against the jewish community?

I thought of making a similar analogy yesterday but using Larry David since he seems closer the nebish, neurotic stereotype.

If I laugh at Jerry Seinfield, is that racist against the jewish community? Yes, and if you ever repeat a Seinfeld joke not only are you racist, but, you're also culturally appropriating their jokes. Next thing we know you'll be quoting the Talmud and sporting payot. Racist. Or something.
nextyear Verified Member Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Kawasaki is Japanese and seems to be proud of it, as he should be; so saying he is Japanese is no worse than saying a Canadian is Canadian. However saying he is a Chinaman is racist, whereas saying he is Chinese is just inaccurate. Kawasaki's ethnicity is Asian, however is it really necessary to point out one's ethnicity? I would refer to Kawasaki as a person firstly, who is also a proud Japanese (PS: Jap would be racist, if one is sensitive to such things then they shouldn't watch WW2 movies). I have pointed out the obvious; this is just for the 1% of the population who don't know better.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Shat-kins are going to get booed beyond belief if they are introduced at the home opener.

Because they let a AA calibre player walk? Any smart fan doesn't care that MK is playing elsewhere, in fact, smart fans are thankful.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 We laughed at him for mispronouncing words and generally misunderstanding our culture. He's like Borat, without the irony. Whoa, I thought you were just f***ing with him...yikes *backs away*

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Biggest appeal of Kawasaki was that he could be had on a MiLB deal. Anyone similar in the system right now or will someone have to be signed?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 thank god we got Barney instead of Kawasaki. Our chances of making the post season are now drastically better with this upgrade! What?
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 don't Don't get the old man riled up! Kawasaki was not an impact player. Most payers on minor league deals or being paid next to nothing have very little impact on a team. They spend most of their time in the minors. Any player replacing kawa in this role will have almost no impact on the Jays team winning. Those overjoyed are that Kawa is gone seem to lack a sense of humour.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Shapiro wasn't going to pay for Kawasaki. He would take Donaldson to arbitration for $10
