The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Don't know how viable an option Cliff Lee is any more but you made me look up his career numbers and I'm grateful for that. What a stud. Trade Dickey, sign Leee. He hasn't won a WS, maybe he wants to here?

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Hasn't Cliff Lee pretty much said he's going to kick back and not bother with a comeback attempt unless someone blows him away with an offer? Cliff Lee is a sexy name but the cash he probably wants to even start working out is probably too big a risk. I can't really blame Lee since I'd probably do the same thing.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 You've been trolled, surprised you took the bait for so long, lol. I guess I just thought Boxy wouldn't troll me for the lolz given we've been posting on the two forums together for many years... s***... Let alone KK

Governator Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Trading Dickey likely with Thole means we'd have a backup catcher to fill too.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Would you guys have preferred signing Clippard for multiple years then trading Revere for a prospect?
flafson Verified Member Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Trading Dickey likely with Thole means we'd have a backup catcher to fill too. I'm worried about the 200+ innings that we will need to fill. I'm just as scared as anyone else when he piches but he gives you 200+ quality innings when all is said and done.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Yeah. I don't think anybody here realized that he was an above-average defender in CF. Even if the defense declines, Pillar should be a lock to provide at least 2 WAR. That is an excellent compliment to the superstars we carry at other positions. Ya. I don't see another 4 WAR season in his future but a solid 2+ish for his cost wouldn't be bad. I was just watching year end best MLB plays and Pillar was pretty incredible and durable. I can't imagine what it must be like to watch KK (not the mod:) play CF every day.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I don't understand why people expect Pillar's performance to drop. Most of his WAR came from defense, and it's not like you get lucky on defense. It's not like he just jumped blindly and the ball happened to fall in his glove. He's a skilled defender who probably reads the ball better than anyone else in the game. It's a tool, beyond the five that the scouts drool over. I see absolutely no reason to think his defense will decline, and Steamer predicts his offense will actually be slightly better. My only concern is the toll that kind of effort puts on his body, especially at Roger's Center. He can't keep that up forever. I'm willing to bet anyone $20 Pillar puts up a 3 WAR season in 2016. (minimum 550 AB)

It flies in the face of much of the conventional baseball wisdom, but it would certainly solve a lot of problems. Nevertheless, all of a sudden the Blue Jays have all kinds of roster flexibility, and it’s all thanks to Drew Storen freeing up these starters that have been pitching in relief. What a difference a day makes." That being said I do believe it will happen in 2017 but they will try to make Sanchez a start in 2016
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Question for the board: If the Storen-Revere swap had been done earlier in the offseason, would you still do the Chavez-Hendriks move? I know some don't like that move anyway, but I'm interested to hear from the ones that do. Having Hendriks would allow Sanchez and Osuna that much more leniency in stretching out in AAA. Big league SP depth would take a hit to start the season (or would it, with guys like Hernandez on MiL deals?). Basically, would you still make the Hendriks trade today even if you liked it in November?
