rydermike Verified Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 LAD get Scott Kazmir for 3 years, will update $ when released. Felt this deserved thread rather than sticking in Around Baseball thread, like the Chapman deal $48 million (16 mill average per) Optout after year 1
Cyborg Verified Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 48M over 3 years with opt out after 1st year.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Interested to see $ value vs Happ
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 48M over 3 years with opt out after 1st year. Good deal for the Dodgers not much risk there. Kazmir will have 8-9 WAR if he sees the deal through over 3 years

Kazmir will have 8-9 WAR if he sees the deal through over 3 years Wonder what the salary breakdown is. If he's good Dodgers likely get a draft pick next year. Going for a full LH rotation. Kershaw Anderson Kazmir Ryu Wood Urias
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I guess this effectively takes the Dodgers out of the Maeda sweepstakes.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Would've loved to see kazmir in a jays uniform. Dodgers are so smart
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Yes, as a Kazmir owner I would also feel great that he was their 6th choice. I'm ok with Kazmir being worse than Price Greinke Cueto and Kuma thx
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Why can't we just call this a 1 year deal with a 2 year player option?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I'm ok with Kazmir being worse than Price Greinke Cueto and Kuma thx I did not enjoy owning him. Good luck!
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I'd rather have Happ on his contract. Happ is one year older but had the better season last year. Kazmir has a better track record in performance but also much more injuries as well. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2015&month=0&season1=2015&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=7410,4897
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Kazmir gettin' PAID! As a 2x owner, this pleases me greatly.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Yes, as a Kazmir owner I would also feel great that he was their 6th choice. Well, his medicals clearly checked out, which is a major plus for Kazmir. The smarted FO in baseball is committing $15M+ in AAV to him, so that makes me feel pretty good about his chances of performing well through the deal... plus the NL West is the best division in baseball for pitchers.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I did not enjoy owning him. Good luck! Did you only own him for the last 2 months of the season? Because that was a super ugly stretch for him.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 The Jays accurately predicting the market for SP's in November saved them a whole bunch of money, short and long term. No way they could have gotten into bidding wars with teams like the Dodgers, Giants, Cardinals, etc, for the 2nd/3rd tier free agent SP's (Kazmir, Shark, Leake types).

Happ had a good second half last year, that's it. Kazmir projects for 2.5 war, Happ 1.8. Kazmir is better, and is worth the extra 4m/yr.

BTS Community Moderator Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Since when does the best front office in baseball give 3 year deals to sucky players? What I mean is that if he spends three years there it's because he sucked in 2016. If he's good he'll opt out.

If he's exactly as good as he was this year, I doubt he'll opt out. He got a 3 year deal with no draft pick attached, that won't happen if he is QO'ed by the Dodgers next offseason.

I could see him opting out with a 2-3 win season.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Since when does the best front office in baseball give 3 year deals to sucky players? That 4 year deal to Brandon McCarthy looks pretty s***** right now. Injury risk was a huge part of that, so don't say it was just bad luck.

If he opts out, they can qualify him for slightly more? Then if he turns that down he's a FA with a draft pick attached, making it harder for him to get paid more then the 2 years he would have made anyways? What?
Cyborg Verified Member Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 That 4 year deal to Brandon McCarthy looks pretty s***** right now. Injury risk was a huge part of that, so don't say it was just bad luck. Does it? He's still really good.

Rogers could have...they have access to the means to do so. They just chose not to for business reasons. Can't say as I blame them. Although $16mm per, if that's whats confirmed, isn't what I expected.
