Ummm I have only been around here for a year, so I might be missing a joke. He was not black, he was white and he had the best baseball name ever.... CHIP CANNON. I used to sing a version of Bobnoxious "Big Cannons" substituting it with "Chip Cannon"

You're right, Chip Cannon had the club foot, McDade was just big and slow I guess.

Yeah I knew that would be a questionable pick, and there probably isn't any justifying having a guy with his numbers on a top prospect list. My thought process was that he's still only 21 and was drafted as a project. Despite currently not being able to hit the broad side of a mountain, I hold onto intrigue for the giant lefty with a deceptive delivery. If he does start to find that command in the next couple of seasons, he shoots up through the system as a lefty reliever.

The most exciting thing about Yorman is that he's only 17. Lots of development left to happen but the early returns are good. Kid can hit.

There's no way to know if any of these guys are any good even the heavily scouted ones.

Stat scouting, and yes I realize how little the DSL stats mean...I just really hate this farm and thought I'd do a little deep stat searching. Did find this gem of a review after my list. But I said many times now that I am going to ignore defensive assumptions based on team moves.

 

Catcher and first baseman Yorman Rodriguez had a tremendous rookie season in the DSL, starting the year at the age of 17 (turning 18 in late July). He hit .335/.413/.455 in 61 games with nine doubles, five triples and two home runs while also stealing 12 bases in 16 attempts. He had an overall strong season with the bat but may fall into the category of a “positionless” player soon. He played mostly at first but, as a right-handed thrower, and standing just 5-foot-10, is not built to be a protoypical first baseman. As a catcher, he threw out just 4% of runners attempting to steal, leading me to believe that his arm strength is lacking (particularly since he was never tried at third base, a popular positional shift for a catcher with a strong arm but limited range on the infield). Is a transition to left field in the cards for Rodriguez who may fall into a defensive “no-man’s-land” while still a teenager? He’s still far too young to categorize yet and could hit a growth spurt causing all of this speculation to go out the window.

Yeah I mean I think a lot of us would prefer there may be more established talent to throw into the list but the bottom of the list mostly comes down to choosing between well known prospects who haven't been very good (Mitch Nay types) and total lottery tickets in the lower minors. Choosing the later is more a philosophical decision than an endorsment.

Idk, he seems to have a pretty good process. Reads literally every scouting report available and follows everything related to the affiliates on Twitter. Maybe his perspective could smooth out any bias that Cyborg's list would have.

 

The only Yorman content on the internet is Blue Jays blogs scouting his stat line (including Hurl's "report").

 

 

There's way too much certainty in this statement. He may just be a Dominican org guy who filled in since they needed a guy to catch. We do know that he didn't receive any kind of signing bonus. Also, he's 18 and will turn 19 during next season.

 

 

Atlanta's farm isn't even that special either. Although maybe they're one of the deeper ones, since it seems that there aren't any super farms at the moment. Partially due to the prodigious graduation that occurred in 2015.

 

I don't think Atlanta's top end is that sexy, but they have acquired a crazy amount of pitching depth to the point where guys like Max Fried and Toissaint might not even be in their top 10. They would both be Top 5s in our system IMO.

I check the DSL box score's everyday, but refused to include any as prospects prior to playing in NA, ideally even until full season ball. The one exception being Vlad Guerrero Jr., and mostly because this system is so lacking in high ceiling impact talent.

That is literally the worst organization to decide to do a top 100.
