burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 They don't really need a SP. I guess they could use Hammel out of the pen but even with his 2 pitches he's a decent starter. Thats all you really need for a number 5
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 They got Warren too and could use him in a pinch, god damn they are a solid team.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Soler + for Carrasco Baez for Cobb and Boxberger. Cobb's injury won't kill the Cubs

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Just go crazy Cubbies and use Schwarber at catcher C - Schwarber 1B - Rizzo 2B - Zobrist SS - Russell 3B - Bryant LF - Soler CF - Baez or FA option RF - Heyward
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Imagine if they got Carrasco too? 100 win team
BallsDeep Verified Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Heyward's numbers aren't that crazy though, is it because he's so young?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Heyward's numbers aren't that crazy though, is it because he's so young? Lots of defensive and base running value and yes he's still young.
Frag Verified Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Cubs lineup by age: 1. Zobrist (34) 2. Rizzo (26) 3. Heyward (26) 4. Bryant (24 in January) 5. Schwarber (23 in March) 6. Soler (24 in February) 7. Montero (32) 8. Russell (22 in January) Coghlan (30) Baez (23) Ross (39 in March) I'm jelly, even with the Jays lineup.

BallsDeep Verified Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Lots of defensive and base running value and yes he's still young. Still seems like anything around 200 million is a lot to pay for SB's and defensive ability?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Still seems like anything around 200 million is a lot to pay for SB's and defensive ability? Yeah but the offense is above average too. Add it all up and you have a great overall player.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Heyward could start sucking in 5 years (declining speed and defense) but I don't think it'll hurt the Cubs at all.

This is kind of bizarre. They already have a strong top 5 + Warren and Cahill. I suppose they could option Hendricks, but that seems like a waste after his sublime 260 career innings to date. Maybe they include him in any trade.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 They'd definitely have to trade someone. You can't just demote Hammel or Hendricks to the bullpen. They're established above-average starters. If they bring in an established SP without moving any, Cahill will probably want to void his contract for misrepresentation, since they told him he would be competing for a spot. Arguably the Cubs have the best pitching staff in baseball already...

Their team is stacked as it is, with loads of young players to boot. I don't see the point in them trading for anything anymore outside of small pieces here and there, especially for Carrasco (Indians will demand a lot for him).
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 Still seems like anything around 200 million is a lot to pay for SB's and defensive ability? Consistent 4-6 WAR player, wRC around 120 with plus defense and baserunning and he's 26. Those don't grow on trees. He's not a massive power bat, that's the thing, but in this day and age front offices see the value in a guy like this.

ROSENTHAL: Hendricks + Soler + Baez for Fernandez in the offing. Mod edit: Dinger done lost his mind

Maybe they're talking about moving one of their back of the rotation guys plus Soler for a stronger SP?

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 ROSENTHAL: Hendricks + Soler + Baez for Fernandez in the offing. Ha, I was just about to say that the only things that make sense would be big trades for legit Aces like Carrasco or Fernandez. I wonder if they would be willing to dangle Schwarber. They could probably get Marcell Ozuna thrown in too, which would be a coup since he might be better than Soler.
