polar bear Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 They must be fully sold on the idea that his mechanics aren't good enough to start. Stroman is basically Price's replacement considering he made like 4 starts... Look, we have Chavez over Hutch, Happ over Sanchez and Estrada over Buehrle to start the season. This is a better rotation than whatever mashup last April was. That's the way I see it right now.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Happ put up 1.4 WAR in September. If he is anything close to that, this is a ridiculous steal.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Ben Nicholson-Smith #BlueJays identified Happ as a target early per Tony LaCava. "J.A. was a priority for us" LaCava: #BlueJays will continue considering starters, but feel they're off to a good start
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Are you new to the forum? Price is just the most recent player that the fans are grumbling about not signing. It happens every offseason, regardless of where the team is. People were livid when the team didn't sign Prince Fielder. All you have to do is look at the reaction of the fans when the 2013 off-season happened. Hype sells tickets in Toronto sports. Whether it helps the team win long-term is not even a glimmer in any of their eyes. Toronto fans and media are butt hurt about Alex leaving. These reactions are just a byproduct of that.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Shapiro thinks that all he needs is decent pitching and the offense will carry this team. At the very least we will have mlb calibre pitching
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 with the Canadian dollar at a measly 75 cents we are at huge disadvantage. can't really expect big name signings in this situation..

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 A 2+1 deal for Kuma is hardly handcuffing Massive assumption that Kuma has any interest in signing here...
wamco Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I think that's why Happ cost 36M. Oh if we are paying Happ in Canadian money, I am in support of the move.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I think that's why Happ cost 36M. You do realize that Happ is being paid is USD. I think adding a lefty to the rotation may have been part of the plan, the Jays play a lot of games at Fenway and Yankee Stadium. I wonder if left handed pitchers have any influence on the Dickey effect?
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 yeah it's definitely 36 mil USD which is 48 mil CAD

His velocity jump on his 4 seamer would suggest so, not so sure about handedness, probably a question Cyborg, Nox, Frag or North could answer.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 How does velocity for a 33 Year old jump
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 How does velocity for a 33 Year old jump Change in mechanics. It's not all that uncommon.
wamco Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 And maybe he'll regress and that was the best he'll ever be, what's more likely? I think it is more likely that happ will have an era over 5 than under 3.
wamco Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Free agency isn't like a store you go to and pay sticker price for whatever is on the shelf. I think we can all assume that they checked in on Lackey and Kuma and were turned down. Samardzija likely makes close to double what was committed to Happ, and might suck. Same with Kazmir. no, shark and kaz aren't getting 6/144
Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Will Kaz/Shark get 18 mil? How about Lackey, 16?
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I think it is more likely that happ will have an era over 5 than under 3. Has anyone suggested he'd have an ERA under 3? I'm not even sure why some are so surprised with Happ getting 3/36. The Jays damn near paid Estrada $15.6m and paid Buehrle $19m last season. Happ at $12m isn't bad at all. If he puts up 6 or more WAR over the next 3 year I'd say we did ok here.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 no, shark and kaz aren't getting 6/144 Where in that post did he say that?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Massive assumption that Kuma has any interest in signing here... Where did i make such an assumption? I said he is someone to target.... you nor i have any clue what his interests are. Stop being a jerk.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 We have the Best 4+ era staff money can buy! If we score 1134 runs we will be fine, just fine! Book it and make it sooo.

Their late season Profits will help us further spruce up our hockey coverage Exec 3: I agree. What we really need is an odepth discussion about the Sanjose Sharks vs Pheonix Cayotes game. Let's put 10 million on that Exec 2: and we should find another ex jockey player for our NHL analysis Exec 1: But hockey ratings are down Exec 2: Shut up you. This is hockey country. Even if there are 0 people watching Hockey in America we need to expand our hockey coverage Exec 3: Yes. Reduce Jays payroll.
