Rodriguez did positive to it, admitted it as well. Doesn't matter to me though, if steroids were a magical substance, then Gregg Zaun, Alex Sanchez and Benito Santiago would've been blasting 40+ homers a year, but they weren't. You still need ridiculous talent.

This makes no sense. Roids can still be the difference between Zaun having a career in the majors vs. being a failed minor league player who ends up mopping floors at the local high school...Alex Sanchez was a speed guy. Do I really need to explain how roids help you run faster and how blistering speed can make you a useful ML player? C'mon man.

The thing holding Edgar back is that he didn't get it going until he was 27...That and he has a few injury plagued seasons hurt.

Wow - I never knew that. What on earth held back one of the best pure hitters in ML history?

IMO, he's not a hall of famer until Edgar is a hall of famer.

Um - Bagwell should get in before both of them. Higher wRC+, could actually run the bases and play defense too. He was awesome. That said - I think all 3 of them deserve the honour.

The Hall of Fame is a joke if Ortiz gets in but Martinez doesn't. Not that it isn't already anyways.

awwww man don't be so critical. Sure there are debates over who should get in, but the Baseball HOF is a simply majestic place. The small town, doubleday field, the vibe, the history - it's amazing man. I can't wait until my 3 boys get old enough that I can take them there. For a baseball fan - it's the best.

The place is beautiful...the process is bad.

Took my kids this summer. Got a big autographed framed picture of Carter's 93 homer celebration. Talked with shop owner and he said concensus was that randy Johnson was an ******* while in town for induction.

I was just getting into baseball in the late 80s... but I remember hearing about Martinez even before he established himself in the majors. He played in Calgary

I don't remember all the details, so a quick look at bbref shows:

It looks like he struggled in double a as a 22 and 23 year old, hitting .260 with no power (but lots of walks)

He creamed the PCL in Calgary as a 24, 25, and 26 year old.

I would suspect he was viewed much like David Cooper... guy who struggled, repeated double a, and didn't hit until he got to the PCL. So he wasn't handed a job right away.

Too bad Cooper wrecked his Neck, would of been interesting to see what he could of done with 500 at bats.

For some reason I had underestimated how good Edgar was. I guessed he'd have a career wRC+ of like 125, but he's at 147 with 65.5 career fWAR. This guy needs to be in the HOF.

Chicks dig the long ball. Having only one 30+ HR season as a DH during the steroid era hurts his case with the dinosaurs. A career .312 average is great, but not sexy enough on it's own without an MVP or championship on his resume. They don't give a s*** about OBP. It's not right, but what can you do? I think we should all just stop caring about the HOF, it's a farce.

Didn't both Pedro and Mariano Rivera hate pitching to Edgar? That should say a lot in and of itself.

Yeah he's a stud. But yet he won't sniff the Hall while an inferior player like Big Papi has a real chance.
