tazsub3 Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 to finally have a baseball first guy in charge could be a huge shift for the team, should be... he talked a lot about collective decisions. It will be very interesting to see, if any, what saber guys he brings into the fold to help with the date to make those decisions. no disrespect to AA but it will be very nice to here legit discussions on why player moves are made instead of just about AA's bowel discomfort. those collective decision did well for Cleveland …judge history and results, not talk.. talk is cheap.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I hope his drafting improves from his Cleveland days. Iv actually really liked Cleveland's drafts the last 2 years. I know its probably more Antonetti than Shapiro but its still encouraging you could say.

I know its probably more Antonetti than Shapiro but its still encouraging you could say. And as far as we know, the drafting team will remain intact. We need to remember that AA consulted with them before drafting anyone or trading for any prospect, and never made that decision on his own. The only thing I'm upset we're losing here is AA's savy in trade discussions and persistence/negotiating ability to talk teams into buying what he's selling. Basically it sucks to lose the ninja, but that's it.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 On fan590 now some actual good questions too.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 "You know, that's a great question" is the new "balls in the air".
art_vandelay275 Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 It's entirely possible LaCava doesn't WANT to be a GM too. Here's the story behind his interview with the O's back in '11 http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22297882/33074876
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 some actual good questions too. Yeah I loved what he said about restrictions in Cleveland and that he can increase risk tolerance in Toronto

I know its probably more Antonetti than Shapiro but its still encouraging you could say. It's hard to tell how much of Cleveland's drafting post 2010 was more Antonetti's or Shapiro's responsibility. However, while he was the GM when Kipnis was picked in 2009, the other players who made it? Tony Sipp, Vinnie Pestano, Cody Allen, Jeremy Guthrie, Lonnie Chisenhall, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Josh Tomlin, TJ House, and Zach Putnam. Not very strong. His trades were stronger than his draft record, IMO.
S33n Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I'm impressed with him, he's very well spoken. This is coming from about 5 minutes of listening to him right now on the Fan, take with a grain of salt.
TilsonBritoFan Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I get the feeling the prospect porn guys on here like BTS wouId rather have the #1 farm system every year over an actual perennial contender. And no one does not always equal the other: see Marlins, Expos, etc. To me the best run franchise is able to draft well as we did under AA (rebuilt system twice in 5 years) but then use some of them as currency when appropriate as we did. Yeah we f***ed up keeping Sanchez over Thor, but we got a lot right too. I was in favour of letting the Beast go, but i would have rather hired a business guy and kept AA. No need to go after the Shapiros and Kenny Williams of the industry. Shapiro is lucky, gets to inherit a good team that should win next year. If they do, he'll buy himself a lot if rope. I think some of you think hes going to turn us into St Louis Cardinals North. Wishful thinking but I don't see it. Im going to give him a fair shake, I hope he turns out as good as you guys think. But the track record in Cleveland doesn't make this a slam dunk. Stop dickriding him until he earns it - and no he hasn't earned s*** yet.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Anyone have the link to the full presser?

Bts doesn't give a flying f*** about prospects outside the top ~50 in the MLB
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Said he wants to have the absolute best ST facility as possible and he knows what it can do for a franchise. This is great to hear and one of the advantages to having an actual baseball person as President.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Bts doesn't give a flying f*** about prospects outside the top ~50 in the MLB lol, I don't think I've ever been called a prospect porn guy before
art_vandelay275 Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 lol Tony keeps saying AA is happy; yeah u can enjoy for about a week and then maybe 2... then what are you going to do? what stake out at chuck e cheese? my bet is that he's going to jump back into the fray sooner than rather later
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 lol, I don't think I've ever been called a prospect porn guy before Ive been banned. When did you rejoin the Jays fanbase?
aselvana Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Lacava on AA: Wasnt motivated to go on, hes happy now. seems like this was more a personal choice than taking the high road that the media is portraying it to be. Lay off the gyros, alex. jebus
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Ive been banned. When did you rejoin the Jays fanbase? Since AA left the team i think lol
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Ive been banned. When did you rejoin the Jays fanbase? Yesterday was the first day with no Beeston/AA. So yesterday.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 The Marlins have had some very good teams with a limited payroll. If their owner wasnt a douche nozzle their GM would probably be viewed a lot higher
art_vandelay275 Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 tony seems like a real genuine guy - he talks about his friendship (like a brother) with AA and how he'll miss him multiple times and yet he is very believable that he is going forward, working with mark and believes this is already a great org... i expected MS to be the pro so that wasn't a surprise; this with TL is a surprise...
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 LaCava doesn't sound like he wants a GM still
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I think Tony is the right guy for this year for sure.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Well Bts welcome back. I'm playing the Jays flashback Fridays welcome back song in my head

If their owner wasnt a douche nozzle their GM would probably be viewed a lot higher i really don't know how loria gets away with what he does - both with the fanbase and the league; this whole expos-marlins with him, henry and selig is the epitome of a old boys network...

He may take a broadcasting role for a while, or perhaps give lectures on sports management at a local university (probably wouldn't qualify as an actual prof). I really think there's something to all of this, that it had more to do with the hours and time away from his family, etc, than anything to do with new management.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 LaCava doesn't sound like he wants a GM still really sounds like he's fine being the AGM once the real GM is hired.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 So no AA and no Beest...... does this mean Cito is history?
