WONDERBAT Verified Member Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Why would we want Morneau? If healthy he seems like a significant upgrade over Smoak and Cola and an excellent Left handed bat to go in our righty dominant lineup.

fireballW Verified Member Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 He's done bro. Smoak is better option right now (Healthy + pop + Defense) Have heard this before and look into the stats but still disagree. Im even a pretty big Smoak fan but I think Morneau at 1B would only make this team that much more awesome.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) Looked up Morneau. Surprised to find he's been an above average hitter again with wRC+ of 122 and 107 last 2 seasons in Colorado. Good for him. Bad defense though. Don't see how he would fit. LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 If Donaldson misses time I'd probably use Goins at 3B and Barney at 2nd. Crazy? I suspect Goins has the reflexes and arm for 3rd. If its late May and beyond Travis should be back
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Gotta say... The opening day roster for 2016 looks significantly better to me than opening day 2015. Tulo instead of Reyes Stroman in effect instead of on DL Saunders in better shape to play Better starting rotation depth Better deeper bullpen Only loss is Travis, and Goins has proven to be a pretty decent backup at 2B I'm pretty excited about our chances this year. I'm gonna not sweat over 2017 and just enjoy it. This is a really good team.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Rays and Red Sox are better now. That's true too Orioles worse. Yankees loaded with question marks everywhere outside the bullpen. Gonna be an exciting year in the AL East.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Rays and Red Sox are better now. Red Sox have a lot of question marks in their lineup though. Better team than last year but mainly due to their improved bullpen and Price. Sandoval showed up to camp looking like a black Staypuff Marshmallow though so, there's that.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Rays and Red Sox are better now. The Rays and Red Sox may be better, but are they better than the Blue Jays? The homer in me believes the Jays will walk right over the the ALE.

I don't buy those numbers. Jays are going to be better than just 3 games over .500. I would really feel a lot better with another #2 or #3 starter though. Don't have a good feeling about this rotation.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 This is the same projection that has the Royals dead last. Ridiculous. Also projects Jays RDif to be 31 when it was 221 last year with the same lineup (for only 2.5 months).

Only Cubs & Dodgers are projected to break 90 wins lol.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I think a better indicator for the Jays would be Vegas who has them at around 87 wins. Those FG projections really underrate the Blue Jays defense. Also don't take into account Dickey and Estrada beating out their FIP. As well Gavin Floyd isn't even on the team apparently..

Just because a team is projected to be better doesn't mean they are. Didn't Fangraphs project the Sox to win the ALE in 2015 as well?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 This is the same projection that has the Royals dead last. Ridiculous. I think the Jays have more upside in their projections than most other teams (Stroman, JD, Tulo, Saunders, Pillar, Estrada, Happ) but we're not walking all over Boston.

Everyone forgetting the Yankees too, that bullpen is really going to cut down games; which is huge considering their starting staff.

I don't think they play it safe... There are just rarely teams that are True 95 win teams. The projections are more like long term averages. - Jays have been projected for about 85 the last 3 years. - their actual performance was 78, 84, 93 They hit the average exactly. The variation was pretty typical
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 (edited) Just because a team is projected to be better doesn't mean they are. Didn't Fangraphs project the Sox to win the ALE in 2015 as well? Yes they did, because of HanRam and Sandoval and those 5 "aces"--what a bust! There's so much uncertainty with Boston.. Ed-Rod's out for most of April, and their rotation is still full of questions after Price. In addition, Owens hasn't impressed this spring, meaning Roenis Elias or long-man Steven Wright will likely get the 5th spot (Johnson isn't MLB ready), which would put Matt Barnes as the long man, if Wright gets the 5th spot. Actually, Elias hasn't impressed either.. Edited March 18, 2016 by jaysfan2014
