I think he's a vegetation so that probably explains his lack of any muscle.

Well in that case I think it's remarkable how well he's been able to pass off as a regular human in society.

Are GD and ORg sitting in a room jerking off to typos right now? Sure seems like it.

Actually I'm just procrastinating while doing an assignment. The typos are just gravy.

good article on the value of having roster flexibility

talks about Giants decisions on Aoki and Petit

relevant for Blue Jays past decisions on Smoak and Revere, also Chavez to an extent.

Yeah that Chavez trade looks really bad considering what the prices for 6th starter/long relievers got in FA. Smoak at 3.9 is a bit questionable as well.

I don't think they view Chavez as a 6th man. They might be saying that in case they stumble on to another SP and need to move someone to the pen, but I don't believe that's how they view him if they moved Hendriks for him. They'll probably end up with someone like Petit to fill that role while Chavez is in the rotation.

Lacava in his interviews compared him to Estrada last year saying they can have him in long relief then make starts if he needs to. My guess is if hutch looks good in ST he gets the job and Chavez is in the pen.

Jays will go after Kazmir. No draft pick compensation attachment. Had a history with Shapiro and the Indians when they decided to give him a second chance. Adds another Lefty to the rotation. 3yr/48m.

If Hutch beats him out or they acquire another SP, then sure I can see him as the long man, but I said they didn't acquire him to be the long man. They obviously like him as a SP but can use him in the pen as depth (which they are trying to accumulate) if need be. If they wanted a long man I don't think they move Hendriks for one. They clearly like him as a starter, and he is a good/solid starter.

Except Jays have no payroll room for that contract.

There's no evidence of what the Jays payroll will actually end up being. If they trade Revere and plug in Pompey then the payroll will only be ~144m. That's only 4m more than the rumored cap.

?? There is lots of evidence, it's called player salaries, and we would be way over getting kazmir for 3 yr/48 mill. Not happening.

Exactly. Unless im mistaken, Shapiro himself said he asked for a payroll increase and it was granted.

Perfect!

I love this front office

Meaning no one from the Front Office went on record that the self-imposed payroll cap will be 140m

I wish we got Heyward and traded away Revere. Saunders in LF, the aging corpse of Bautista in RF and 1B, and Heyward in both LF and RF. Pompey can fill in when Saunders is inevitably injured.

8 years, 200 million. It makes too much sense (besides the lack of payroll). Heyward is young, left handed bat, and a perfect piece for the Bautista RF to 1B/DH transition. Not to mention the absurd prices on pitching that we see lately. It is generally accepted that pitchers are riskier than hitters, but I would argue that as a contract goes longer in years, the difference in risk also increases.

Reinvigorates fanbase as well. Besides, baseball salaries will (most likely) continue to increase. Just look at how the Martin contract seems good going forward in retrospect.

I don't need reinvigorating. This team is probably the best in baseball atm.

Do people still think Heyward is only getting $200M in a world where Greinke got 206M?

I'm actually starting to think Heyward might get less than $200M. He hasn't been a hot topic at all this hot stoving season.

I don't think anyone expected him to sign early anyway.

I have a bad feeling the Yankees will be signing him.

You say that like AA didn't do the same thing.

Sure, but he sucked at it.

He would churn through a bunch of backend guys and never really give them a chance. Ex., Jeffress became a stud like as soon as Toronto got rid of him. Same with Chavez. There are other names littered in the recent bullpen history of the Jays that should have been given more of a chance. Coello, Colt Hynes, Dyson, Wagner, maybe Rasmussen

The only buy-low or bounce back RP type that I can think of that worked out in AA's entire tenure is Hendricks... maybe Delabar was a buy-low? More of a fair deal.

He bought on guys with Saves experience like Hawkins, CoCo, Francisco, Santos, Lyon.

He overpaid for guys with good scouting grades, like Esmil Rogers and Brad Lincoln.

He brought SP prospects up from A ball out of desperation to fill bullpen needs.

I really don't think AA was too good at playing the reliever game.

Smart teams like Tampa turn free again bargains into shut down relievers on the regular, man. Like, yearly.

Teams overpay for #1 pitching. It's just one of those irrational market things. Has no bearing on Heyward.
