flafson Verified Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Very remote possibilities. None of them are likely to be good enough to warrant a QO when they are free agents. And at this rate, the QO figure might be closer to 20M than 15M.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 And at this rate, the QO figure might be closer to 20M than 15M. That's true, a lot of things need to play out.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Perhaps a more major thing that will play out that hasn't been discussed is the fact that a new CBA will be in place next offseason. We don't know how the compensation system will change. I wouldn't mind scrapping it altogether.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 So what's the metric, then? Giving away good players to get equally good players back? If so, Miami trade was bigger. Getting a franchise quality player in a deal for a fan favourite? Lawrie + for Donaldson was a better deal for the Jays than McGriff + Fernandez for Carter and Alomar. The REAL reason it's considered the biggest by some people is due to nostalgia only, which is a pretty s***** reason. It's because of back to back World Series wins I'd say

baloojayz Verified Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Why haven't the O's signed Davis?
baloojayz Verified Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Come again? Why would you QO a 34 year old, a 36 year old and a 33 year old? None of which are worth it Lol especially after not wanting to QO Estrada this year...
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Why haven't the O's signed Davis? No big position players have signed yet. Everyone seems to be waiting for someone else to move first in the hitter market. Who knows if the O's even have the funds.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Are you sure? Everyone quoting the Happ deal as a huge factor in why prices been going extremely high this year. It's like they are saying, if someone as bad as Happ can get 30M, someone of value is worth the whole farm. Happ was the 28th best starting pitcher last year. Try not to say such dumb things please.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I think Chavez could be a valuable trade piece at the 2016 deadline, if he has a great 1st half like he usually does, and Hutch/Sanchez/Osuna are nipping at his heels in AAA.
skirbs11 Verified Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Still hope we add another SP, through trade or F/A. I think any of Carrasco, Iwakuma, Gallardo, Ross, Leake or Shields would fortify the starting rotation better than Chavez. Or taking a flyer on the Elder Cliff Lee, Japanese newest import Maeda or the Non tendered Alverez. Just dont think the rotation is currently as strong as I would like it. Obviously some deals would need to be made, Moving Dickey and Revere make the most sense as it frees up the most money, Either get prospects in return or use them to get help in the Bullpen.
wamco Verified Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I stay away from cliff lee aka the adverb
Followthelight Verified Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 (edited) We need another SP, that pitching staff could be decent or really bad. Edited December 6, 2015 by KingKat
Nafro Verified Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Wow. Its not him, but I can't believe how similar Mat Latos' stats are to Shark's. They pitched in different league's but still. Crazy.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Hutchison could very well be the 2nd best pitcher on the staff yet everyone has him penciled in to be the 6th starter.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 6, 2015 Author Posted December 6, 2015 Hutchison could very well be the 2nd best pitcher on the staff yet everyone has him penciled in to be the 6th starter. It's just practical. He's the only one that can feasibly start in AAA.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 It's just practical. He's the only one that can feasibly start in AAA. Exactly. There's a lot of value in having MLB calibre guys with options. That's what gives you depth.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 It's just practical. He's the only one that can feasibly start in AAA. If he looks good in ST he should be in the rotation, options or not. Chavez can be in the bullpen.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Exactly. There's a lot of value in having MLB calibre guys with options. That's what gives you depth. If Hutchison in the rotation and Chavez in the bullpen gives you the best team I'm not sure why you would start Hutch in AAA. Chavez can still be depth in the pen like Estrada was last year. Its not like there is less of an injury risk if Hutch is starting in AAA than in the Majors.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 All good points above Hutch could be very good and if he is that's huge After spring training you make the best of what you have. That could be Hutch in the rotation and Chavez swing man from the pen. It could be Hutch in AAA. Truth is, Hutch will have a lot to prove in spring training. And I hope he kicks ass.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 If he looks good in ST he should be in the rotation, options or not. Chavez can be in the bullpen. As of now, Stro, Dickey, Estrada, Happ should be the only ones guaranteed a rotation spot out of ST. 5th starter a battle between Chavez, Hutch, Sanchez, ? Hoping they find a way to upgrade on Dickey as the #2 in the rotation

Who gives a s*** about championships when you can look at WAR.
deepz Verified Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I'm a little worried we're automatically making Osuna the closer again. He has the stuff to be a starter and is much more valuable in that position. Shouldn't he be getting every look to be in the rotation?
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I'm a little worried we're automatically making Osuna the closer again. He has the stuff to be a starter and is much more valuable in that position. Shouldn't he be getting every look to be in the rotation? Same. It doesn't really fit Shapiro/Atkins' mo. This is why we should sign 2 of Kelley/Lowe/Bastardo/Sipp and trade Revere for RP. Then we could try and sign a few cheap failed starters as reclamation projects for the BP. At that point, maybe we can put Osuna in AAA to stretch out, then call him back up to be in the BP late in 2016.
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Does anyone else feel that they will try and hide Osuna in AAA for the first 2 months of the season for whatever reason you can think of to reset his service time to avoid Super 2 after this year? I would.

I would. I would for the 1st 4 months to get his innings up as a starter for 2017, before calling him back up in August to join the BP for the fall push. I don't see why you don't if you can sign enough relief help this off-season.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Osuna, Sanchez, and Hutchison starting in AAA would be fine with me but that's a lot of bullpen spots to fill without Hendriks.
Followthelight Verified Member Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Hutchison could very well be the 2nd best pitcher on the staff yet everyone has him penciled in to be the 6th starter. He could also be the worst...way to go out on a limb guy.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
