Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 They're not going to do that... Much more like Pompey for Bauer. Pompey is Canadian, he still here. Bautista for Bauer
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Pompey is Canadian, he still here. Bautista for Bauer Guess you never read the part where the Jays aren't going to make a trade to be worse in 2016. And besides the point Bautista isn't accepting a trade to f***in Cleveland lol.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I know they said they didn't want to trade any big bats, but maybe Travis and Pillar are available, that would get it done fairly, if not weighted more in favor of Cleveland, if we go by projected WAR. Then we'd just need to sign a 2B, and play Pompey in CF. Travis won't be traded with the latest injury news.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 With the blue jays likely having 7 of 8 players being plus defenders I'd rather the Jays target a guy who doesn't give up a ton of HRs.
GoJays Verified Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Ok, you're going on ignore. Hey i posted I like Revere in this lineup because we have power at other positions but look at his value at the deadline last year. We paid very little for him. We have 20 million to spend and in need of 4 pitchers one of which has to be a #2 type starter. Can't win in the playoffs with Stroman and a bunch of 4/5s. Can he be traded ? Not likely at the salary he makes. If he can great . i look at it this way, Pompey in left and Iwakuma plus Lowe and another BP piece is better than Revere, Pelfrey and Lowe. It is all about the Budget. Give me an extra 10 mil and I gladly keep Revere.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Their most plus defender is a centrefielder. Centrefielders get to field lots of fly balls. I think their would be a larger advantage to having a GB pitcher with Donaldson, Tulo, Goins infield and half the games on the slow turf. Obviously if the flyball pitcher is the much better pitcher you go with the talent but if it they are close I'd take the GB guy.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 You weren't comparing two close players here, though. You asserted that the Jays should not target a pitcher who gives up home runs. That kind of blanket statement is counter-productive. nice

I said I'd rather target a player who didn't give up a ton of HRs. If a SP is an upgrade I'd obviously take it.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Pillar Sanchez for Salzer
Smokingjays1111 Verified Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Once again , where is the evidence we have only 20 mil to spend ?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Once again , where is the evidence we have only 20 mil to spend ? It's an assumption. If you have evidence that would support a different assumption, go right ahead and provide it. Otherwise it just seems like you're being argumentative.
King Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Blake McFarland and Brady Dragmire added to 40 man roster before Fridays deadline
Smokingjays1111 Verified Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I'm making the assumption based on good business, the jays captured a audience last year , as much of us die hards hate band wagoners they make Money for Rogers , dropping some money in free agents keeps the buzz going
Nafro Verified Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I really hope they protect Perdomo.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Regarding Sanchez: “I know Sanchez wants to be a starter,” said the Blue Jays GM about the right-hander. “I think Sanchez has a huge upside, especially after the way he developed last year to begin the season, just getting better and better before the injury. I think he can be a great starter.” http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/gibbons-pitching-staff-key-to-winning-for-blue-jays/

And no, John Lackey for 2 years is not the big money I'm referring to.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I think at best the team sees Sanchez fighting Hutch for the 5th spot
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 To clear that up, Gibbons said that, not LaCava. Hmmm, yep, you're right. Don't usually bother listening to the audio, so took the article at face value.

If the Can. dollar was par I would agree with you but with it at 75 cents I think Rogers is being pretty good at 140 mil.

Yeah I think given the exchange rate and knowing that the optics would be very bad on a payroll decrease, I think expecting the payroll to be about the same or slightly higher is a fairly reasonable expectation. It's also happens to be the figure that's been reported. If you're going to make an assumption on payroll at all then it certainly seems like the one to make. Nobody will get upset if it turns out to be higher but I don't see the argument for expecting much more right now.
GoJays Verified Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Have no idea what the revenue for the Jays is in American dollars but MOST of their expenses, Minor leagues, drafting and scouting, and MLB salary is in US dollars. Every fan wants a huge budget but I can't see how anyone can b@tch about a budget of 140 US. The last time the Canadian $ was real low the Jays received some league money to mitigate this. Anyone know if this cash is available again

If a team made $50 million why should MLB give them more money? Does anyone know what currency Blue Jays executives are paid in? I would assume its CAD but for the big jobs like President, GM and manager I wonder if it would be USD.

Since you're potentially competing against American teams for top executives, coaches and managers, USD would make sense for the same reason that players are paid in USD.

I know Stephen Brooks is paid in CAD as I'm sure most employees on the business side are. The on-field staff is pretty close to players though so thats why I was wondering.
