Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 The worst manager in baseball should provide us with endless entertainment. 1. Alex Gordon hitting 8th in game 1. 2. Alcides Escobar leading off in game 1. Yost>Gibby so far

thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 It's only a mistake if you lose. There's a thing called being right for the wrong reasons.
Statman Verified Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 It's even more egregious to start a thread thinking that batting order in a lineup really matters.
Statman Verified Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Yost>Gibby so far Which means Kansas City's players have played better.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 17, 2015 Author Posted October 17, 2015 It's even more egregious to start a thread thinking that batting order in a lineup matters. It matters, it's just that the probability of it having an effect in a given game is very small. Giving more PAs to Alcides Escobar than to Alex Gordon in a game/series is objectively stupid. Egregious, if you will.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 It's only a mistake if you lose. Jesus Christ

The probablility of something being "very small" and the term egregious are not synonymous.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 17, 2015 Author Posted October 17, 2015 The probablility of something being "very small" and the term egregious are not synonymous. True, but I'm not entirely sure you know what synonymous means.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Can we do Gibbons too? Goins hit down 3-0 in the 7th Goins hit down 5-0 in the 9th No excuse ^ this. And going to Hawkins over Hendriks only down 3 runs with an off day tomorrow. Would have liked to seen our guys get a look at Davis too last night. Not pinch running for Navarro?
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 ^ this. And going to Hawkins over Hendriks only down 3 runs with an off day tomorrow. Would have liked to seen our guys get a look at Davis too last night. Not pinch running for Navarro? Everything was bad. Gibby managed like it was a regular season game. Almost threw in the towel.
Statman Verified Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 True, but I'm not entirely sure you know what synonymous means. Actually, you must not understand the meanings(s) of the word synonymous and the context in which it can be used.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 17, 2015 Author Posted October 17, 2015 Actually you must not understand the meanings(s) of the word synonymous and the context in which in can be used. Look, I made this thread because it's fun to poke fun at Ned Yost. If you don't want to join in on poking fun at Ned Yost, nobody's forcing you. I'm not getting into a debate about whether or not your best hitter should hit 8th while your worst hitter leads off, and I'm absolutely not going to get in to a semantic debate about whether or not that mistake is egregious.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Everything was bad. Gibby managed like it was a regular season game. Almost threw in the towel. oh well ya know...its only one game ya know....Navarro is one of our best hitters ya know....and Hawkins, well he can still get it done ya know and we will get em tomorrow. I'm a Gibby fan, or neutral at least, but every gm in the post season we need to use superior options. Off day Sunday.
blurnandez Verified Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 I hope Gibbons doesn't use Hawkins for the rest of the playoffs unless it's for mop-up duty. He's just too damn hittable.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 17, 2015 Author Posted October 17, 2015 Rios starting over Dyson again.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Egregious! Synonymous! Harmonious! ....... Said Jackie Chiles.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Rios starting over Dyson again. Would you start Dyson against a LH starter?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Rios starting over Dyson again. Rios has actually hit Price pretty good in 30Abs. Its not a bad decision compared to what managers do every day.

BTS Community Moderator Posted October 17, 2015 Author Posted October 17, 2015 Would you start Dyson against a LH starter? It's a lot more defensible. Dyson is just such a difference maker in the OF, especially in a park like Kauffman.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 It's a lot more defensible. Dyson is just such a difference maker in the OF, especially in a park like Kauffman. I'd still start Rios because of Dyson's career 50 wRC+ against lefties, but I understand your point as well.

With all the Jays Pull hitters RF isn't that big of a deal if you were to lose some defense for the first 6 innings.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Dyson-Rios decision just had a big impact
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Not asking a s***** hitter to bunt yet asking a better one, oh wait...
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Yeah, having Revere bunt makes little sense. Good contact hitter, should have been able to move Goins over even while trying to pull a hit. Could have been Revere doing it on his own though.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Not asking a s***** hitter to bunt yet asking a better one, oh wait... That was weird, but Goins seems to kind of suck at bunting sometimes.

Good contact hitter, should have been able to move Goins over even while trying to pull a hit. Could have been Revere doing it on his own though. Could very well have been. Although, in such an instance, I think the manager should make it clear to the batter after the first attempt that he wants him swinging away.
