Edwin wont get close to that. Jose will.

I know what his numbers are but 5/100 is not going to happen. If it does I wish the E-Rex well.

I think he is a better candidate for accepting a reasonable 3 year extension than Jose.

Nobody is really advocating to sign them both to extensions. Bautista will probably get extended, Edwin probably walks.

I think Edwin can expect 4/80 at the absolute least. He'll be entering his age-34 season. V-Mart just got 4/68 entering his age-36 season with a worse track record.

I think they'll sign twin 3 year deals this off-season, maybe something like 3/$50M each. I will put nothing past Anthopoulos when it comes to inking team-friendly extensions, and I think both players love this team/situation a lot.

My gut tells me it's the other way around.

Funny we are discussing this on the eve of a Game 5 win to go to ALCS and have a strong looking team going into 2016.

Its not a lot to go on, but I like Brunt and he spent lots of time with both of them in DOM REP. His interview recently with Jose was telling to him. He was saying they are very different people from different parts of DR and different backgrounds. Edwin loves TOR and Jose is all business.

He sees an Edwin ext and Jose walking for his last deal based on who and where they are in their lives/careers.

A min of 4/80mm for Edwin is a big ticket but you may be right BTS. I don't like the Vmart deal.

I could see that. I expect one to be resigned and one to walk.

I've always envisioned AA not wanting to take the PR hit of losing JB, but with Shapiro on board now maybe that line of thinking will change.

if/when Jose leaves in 2017, Alford will be busting down the door, and the fans will have their new hero

they will both resign and retire as jays. David Ortiz style without the hall of fame career

If Edgar martinez can't get into the HoF, Ortiz shouldn't be anywhere near it.

Something I remember from Bautista.... In his video where he shows off his watches, he was saying he was waiting to get the more expensive watches until he gets a nice raise. I don't think Jose will take a team-friendly deal.

I can't see them going that far below market value on their last major contracts, especially Edwin who relatively speaking hasn't made much money for someone of his calibre

I think Edwin is the most likely to extend on a team friendly deal based James Brunt's visitations with him and Jose in the Dominican. Jose is a business man who was born wealthy and privileged and knows his market worth. Edwin is a shy introvert who's loyal to the Jays for the support and just wants to give back to home village.

I feel like there's no possible way you could know any of that, but ok.

After seeing Goins in the playoffs its pretty clear that the guy can't hit. His hit streak may have had to do with teams throwing him fastballs after focusing heavy on the top order

Lol..

My bad lol, Stephen.

There isn't, which is why I mentioned it was Brunt's analysis from visiting both for weeks in the Dominican Republic. Do you have a comprehension issue?

EE + SRF to St.Louis for Carlos Martinez is waiting to happen, especially after the Cardinals early exit. EE could / should be the center piece in acquiring a controllable young SP. I don't see EE aging well in the next few years.

Martinez ended the season going on the 60 day DL with a scary shoulder injury. Try someone else!

I agree that trading EE for a young, controllable, good SP could make real sense. I disagree that he won't age well. He seems to have perfect "old man" skills, like Ortiz, VMart, etc.

What does being a shy introvert and patriot have to do with taking a below-market deal? Do introverts care less about money? I have not heard that before.

From what Brunt deduced, it seems that way. He donates most of his money to his village and lives minimalistically outside of his love for nice cars. Brunt deduced that based on Edwin's values and the importance he places on comfort and familiarity, that he is by far the most likely to extend on a team friendly deal.

I had to take a personality test for work long ago and got 'INTP', with the 'I' standing for introvert. The description said they live in their heads and don't care much for wealth, making them both the laziest and the most intelligent.

Not that this really has anything to do with the conversation, but maybe introverts are less likely to be greedy. It's not the first time I've heard that.

Very interesting, thanks for that!

And you don't know what Edwin is thinking about right now. Even if you take the Brunt stuff at face value, that was a few years ago.

Sorry I mentioned Brunt's thoughts now, but I heard them a couple weeks ago. That piece with Edwin was filmed last year before the season. (2014)

His follow up one on one with Jose was very recent. I got the impression he spoke to them on a somewhat regular basis but don't know that.

It was just his opinion that he thought Edwin was very different than Jose and a better candidate for wanting to extend and stay in TOR. "Jose is all business" inferring its his last deal and he will go for max. Anecdotally, he said when Jose and he were out for dinner in the DOM REP, Jose had a friend join them and most of the dinner convo was about real estate investing in TOR.

I don't know anything about shy introvert motivations or village donations. I also don't fault any player for going for the max. Its a biz.

Here's the podcast where Brunt talks about his experiences and discussions with both.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/at-the-letters-stephen-brunt-on-all-things-blue-jays/

He mentions their personalities, values, how they grew up, Edwin purchasing the blocks in his neighborhood so his friends and family could live for free, Jose's business approach to life and interest in being valued appropriately, and more.

If Brunt bought this, then EE has good agents guiding him to a be cashin...the Domincan player giving his money away story is as old as dirt, heen told too many times. Not saying it doesnt happen, and that EE doesnt do it, but seriously, that agent PR and guidnce to the player 1000000000%

If EE gets dealt I just can't see it being to an NL club where he was to play the field everyday.

I dunno, I think Edwin is getting more comfortable at 1B. He's certainly looked competent there this season.

Brunt visited Edwin in the Dom Rep lol, and he hung out with his "outgoing" father, his "shy" mother, his kids, and the friends/family in the neighborhood that Edwin helped. There's no agenda there, it's a fact.

If EE wants to help kids, he should be milking the jays dry in his next contract to help as many kids he can.

He was more concerned with his neighbouring friends/family than "kids" in general based on Brunt's analysis. He said Edwin cares the most about his community/inner circle.

Not really..

AA has come to realize that it isn't just talent that is important, although the Blue Jays have lots of talent; character is also very important in players. Edwin seems like a legitimately good person who wants to stay in Toronto. When he is out of the lineup the team suffers. Why would people want to trade such a player as Edwin when he is still productive.

I say NO, don't break this team up anymore than is necessary (it might not be possible to resign Price though).
