i'm excited. we waited 22 years to experience this again, and so far, it has been amazing.

of course I want the Jays to win and advance - but if they don't, I'm happy to see that they fielded a successful team.

a lot of good guys on the team that makes it very easier to cheer for the squad - I'm optimistic that even if Price leaves that this team will be a contender for at least 2 more seasons.

 

p.s. anyone notice that in Price's interviews, he never talks about the team in the same way as the other members do - even a late acquisition like Tulowitzki? He always uses phrases like "I'll do whatever I can for those guys" or "that's what I'm here for", whereas any other player will use the term 'we' (hell, even the fans do this) or 'us'. Suggests that he's obviously committed to winning, and appreciates the fan support for him since he arrived, but doesn't have the same level of loyalty or attachment as, say, a Josh Donaldson, Ben Revere, or Marco Estrada. Makes sense that he's due a massive payday, but I don't get the sense that he's looking to stick around based on his interviews in the past couple of weeks. Just my two overeducated with sub-optimal financial return cents.

i feel like the most hardcore jays fans want him back but at a reasonable price, and also realize that he's likely to walk.

most casual fans, however, will likely be butthurt and madbro once he does leave. especially so if the Jays advance and he becomes a proper playoff performer.

"Canadian fans of the Blue Jays with tickets to Game 5 are invited to arrive at the Rogers Centre 2 hours before game time to take part in a baseball clinic sponsored by MLB and FoxSports. The clinic will include the rudiments of the laws of the game (number of innings, the purpose for ‘extra innings’, what “outs” are, the difference between balls and strikes), followed by an on-field (on “ASTRO-Turf”) practical clinic in catching and throwing a baseball.

 

The catching clinic will be led by 14 season MLB veteran Harold Reynolds, now a broadcaster with FoxSports. If Toronto ponies up he would definitely consider it.

 

And I think the fans will be upset if he leaves but will get over it quickly, especially if the team wins without him. James Shields left the Royals and the fans there aren't upset about that.

Yeah that too lol. But I do think he feels some sort of obligation to the Jays. How much that is a factor probably not a ton but I was posting in reference to Price's interviews of late.

Everything that ailed the hitters was cured with Perez & Holland. Honestly I think Gallardo would've gave the Rangers a better shot but Hamels is beyond formidable in spite of the matchup issues. We can't get overconfident at all, the bats could go silent and Stro could have a stinker.

I feel good about the Blue Jays chances.

 

PROS:

1) They have arguably their best pitcher in Stroman, who is also the most composed starting pitcher on their team.

2) The Blue Jay hitters in the two games in Texas went back to being patient at the plate.

3) They have now played 4 full games in the ALDS and should be over the jitters they showed in the first 2 games.

4) Russel Martin has only played in one game since Saturday and should be rested.

5) David Price could probably come in from the bullpen for 20 pitches or so to face a couple of lefties.

 

CONS

1) Can't think of any, except that Texas was in this situation before in 2010. They won the first 2 games in Tampa, lost 2 in Arlington at home, and won game 5 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_American_League_Division_Series. The interesting thing about that series is that Cliff Lee faced David Price in game 1 in Tampa and Cliff Lee won, and then again in game 5 Cliff Lee beat David Price at home in Tampa. David Price lost 2 of the 3 games that Tampa lost. This makes me wonder if Gibbons is aware of this series and did everything he could to ensure that the same thing won't happen again in Toronto (David Price pitching and losing games 1 and 5 at home).

 

The thing I feel best about is that history can't repeat itself - there is no chance of David Price starting and losing games 1 and 5 at home, as he did previously against this same team (Texas). But I am a big David Price fan.

The truth is, I am far more nervous about this game than games 3 and 4. In games 3 and 4, the chances of the Blue Jays going on to the ALCS seemed to be slim, but now if the Blue Jays win they will get to play in the ALCS. It will be a very big disappointment if they lose.
