Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Good job Ang. You called him as the breakout player in the offseason. I thought you were f***ing nuts. Now I know you're just f***ing goats! lol...f*** Off..... My sides...
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 IMO the MVP of this series, came up huge with the bat, glove and legs.
nextyear Verified Member Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Kevin Pillar is a bona fide All Star caliber player. Without Pillar on the Blue Jays I am sure we would now be talking about next season, or many of us would now be watching football and hockey since the season would have been over on October 4th. There is no way AA will trade Pillar anytime soon.

nextyear Verified Member Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Come on, man Yawn. Nope, I won't take your bait. My post might have been possible to argue against 4 - 5 months ago, but now even people outside of Toronto are saying the same thing. So it is obvious that you are trolling.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 I think there is definitely a bit of growth to come in Pillars offensive game. He needs to use the whole field a bit more which will lead to those high babips he had in the minors. At the beginning of the year he was super pull happy and i think he has slowly gotten better throughout the year. Anyways congrats on the awesome year KP.

Holy s*** lol I'm trolling because you made an absurd statement and I said "come on"?
EMK19 Verified Member Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Pillar without a doubt has had a great year but I'm reserved still about whether he will be able to continue this form for the next 4-5 years, I'd like to see another year of this caliber from him first before committing long term on him. His style of play also worried me a bit in a long run... He plays incredibly hard and his body took one hell of a beating this year, and one has to wonder that there is only so much that his body can take...

With Pompey in the wings he would deal Pillar in a heartbeat for the right return.

Why would we trade a guy in Pillar who has proven he can and will grow in favour of a guy that hasn't accomplished a single thing?

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2015 Author Posted October 16, 2015 Pompey hasn't accomplished nothing in the league. Why would we trade a guy in Pillar who has proven he can and will grow in favour of a guy that hasn't accomplished a single thing? How was he supposed to accomplish anything with a 20 game trial? Wasn't like Pillar delivered much until he got a real chance to play either. I said " he would deal Pillar in a heartbeat for the right return". That's a huge caveat. Our team would have to be made net better given we lose what I think will be a fairly consistent 2.5 to 3.5 WAR player still cheap. It may be Pompey who gets moved. We'll see.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 I still think pillar has atrocious pitch recognition, anyone disputing that just isn't paying attention. However, his ability to put the bat on the ball is elite and is the main reason he is able to be viable as a hitter given his skill set. If someone could teach his stubborn ass to stop swinging at obvious balls way out of the zone, this ridiculous all star talk might actually have some merit. As it stands right now, Kevin pillars approach to hitting is what is preventing him from becoming a good hitter.

He is a true hacker, and while he certainly works in the Jays lineup, he's going to have to learn how to take a pitch if he wants to maintain or improve his value. I could see opposing pitchers next season throw him nothing but junk to see if he will chase.

He makes contact and puts a lot of balls in play on non strikes. They have been throwing him tons of junk all this year already this season to see if he will chase.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2015 Author Posted October 17, 2015 Just watched MLB' Top 100 plays and Pillar's Superman catch in the last series against TB was #7 and his Spiderman catch was #1 of the season. Nice to see him getting that kind of recognition around baseball.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Nice to see him getting that kind of recognition around baseball. Yep. Hope the GM's were watching
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2015 Author Posted October 17, 2015 Yep. Hope the GM's were watching It will be interesting to see who is coveted more. The guy who puts up a 4.3 WAR very few Tor fans think is sustainable vs the kid on the cusp of MLB with more control, and where they are trying to access his unproven value level.
nowayjose Verified Member Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 He whines a bit too much, says dumb things once and awhile and is as averse to walks as Trump supporters are to logic. But the kid can play. Update projections have him as our 2nd most valuable player. He makes 500K a year and is under control for another 4 years. Durable, plays a premium position and his wife trolled Barry Davis. He has defied the odds, the haters and the hive and become one of the faces of our franchise. All hail Pillar!!
nextyear Verified Member Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 I have a lot of confidence in Pillar now. Every time he comes to the plate I expect him to hit the ball hard. Just for info, there is a Pillar appreciation thread at this link - http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/5564-Pillar-Appreciation-Thread?highlight=pillar , although there weren't many posts at the time.

nextyear Verified Member Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 kk, end thread then. Maybe you can spice it up by providing a link to Pillar's "wife trolling Barry Davis", that would be interesting. Was it on Twitter?

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2016 Posted May 7, 2016 (edited) As long as he hits in the bottom third of the order I don't think anyone has or had a problem with him being on the team. He just needs to stay the f*** away from the leadoff spot until he learns to take a walk and can put up an OBP north of .350 minimum, preferably .370. Your leadoff man needs to be more than just a babip dip away from total crap. 2.5% walk rates don't cut it at the top of any lineup Edited May 7, 2016 by John_Havok
