John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Whats the deal with Vlad Jr? Will he play in Vancouver this year or? My guess is they will keep him in the Gulf Coast league to start out. Usually the Vancouver team gets the college draftees and guys that have already gone through the GCL and/or Bluefield
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Whats the deal with Vlad Jr? Will he play in Vancouver this year or? He's 16, Jays can take their time developing him. No way Vancouver this year.

King Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2016 Posted April 30, 2016 Why only 3 innings? He was injured. Placed on the DL now but is apparently expected to miss only one start. In other news, the real Jon Harris was reinstated off the temp. inactive list after a family issue and just finished his start today. 4IP 2H 0ER 1BB 4K

nextyear Verified Member Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 It is shocking to see how little minor league players make. I figured that a good AAA player would make in the $50,000 - $100,000 per season range, however, the typical AAA pay is $2,150 a month - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1957838-mlb-must-finally-answer-for-exploitation-in-the-minor-leagues Does anyone know if say a player like Ryan Goins is sent down to AAA does he immediately go from the $500,000 MLB minimum to the typical AAA pay? I know some such as Kawasaki had guaranteed salaries whether they were in AAA or the MLB, but this would be for experienced MLB players.

I've never really been able to find a definitive answer on this. I would guess that the would make a portion of the mlb league minimum if they are on the 40 man roster bjt still playing in the minors, but it probably varies depending on how much mlb service time they have and whether they started the year in the minors, or started the year in the majors and got sent down.

Side note, there is a lawsuit right now against mlb by minor league players stating that the wages they earn are below the legal minimum wage. It's pretty interesting in a long boring legalese kind of way
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Dominican summer league 700 dollars by month Pretty good by DR standards?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 Pretty good by DR standards? Signing bonus was a goat and a 3 chickens

King Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 (edited) I'm watching the Lugnuts game. I like what I've seen from Rios, fastball has arm side run, he throws strikes and works quickly. 2IP 0H 0ER 0BB 1K. The 1K he threw Elvis Rubio a few fastballs away and then froze him with a slider. 3rd inning, was another quick inning with another K coming on the slider. 33 pitches, 26 strikes through 3 innings (!). 4th inning, gave up a deep flyball to Monte Harrison, but it was caught on the warning track for an out. To Max McDowell, he threw a fastball outside, followed by 2 sliders for called strikes, then a 3rd slider fouled away, and then he got him swinging on a 93 mph fastball (stadium gun, not sure how accurate, but seems to fit most of the reports) up in the zone. 4IP 0H 0ER 0BB 4K, 45 pitches 35 strikes, 4go-4fo 5th inning, he got a Elvis Rubio to groundout on a 1st pitch fastball. First time he's getting hit a bit as he gave up a 3-2 single to Carlos Belonis and another single to Jacob Gatewood. The Belonis single was a looper to CF and the Gatewood hit was a hard hit line drive down the LF line. He got out of the jam with a weakly hit ball to 2B and a flyout to RF on the slider. 5IP 2H 0ER 0BB 4k, 60 pitches 44 strikes, 6go - 4fo A side note - I'm not sure who this Jon Perrin guy is for the Brewers. But he has good minor league numbers so far (late 2015 draftee) and he's dominating the Lugnuts today. 6IP 3H 2ER 0BB 8K Rios is back out for the 6th inning. First batter he faces he induces a groundball but Cardenas with a throwing error allows him to reach first. Monte Harrison flies out to CF in the next at bat. Rios threw a fastball in the dirt for a wild pitch that allowed the runner to advance to 2B. McDowell hit a single up the middle, and Isan Diaz laced a line drive down the RF line. Starting to get hit around a bit now. Double steal allows the runner to take home.. then Rios got Elvis Rubio on another slider away for the K. Belonis hit a line drive up the middle that allowed Diaz to score. Belonis stole 2B but then advanced to 3rd on the throw down into CF. Gatewood popped up to end the inning. 6IP 5H 3R(1er) 0BB 5K, 82 pitches 59 strikes, 7go-7fo. I'm not sure if he'll be back out for the 7th inning so that could be the final line. He worked mostly fastball/slider. If he doesn't stick as a starter his fastball/slider combo might play up well out of the bullpen. Edited May 2, 2016 by King
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Hey King! I was wondering what you and others think or what you can tell me about this Johnathan ? Davis kid. To early or is he having a break out season somewhat ? His numbers are SSS but looking Good !

To early or is he having a break out season somewhat ? His numbers are SSS but looking Good ! The guy can hit. Last year had a 218 wRC+ in Low A (followed by pedestrian 93 wRC+ in High A) but this season he's raking again with a 195 wRC+ in High A. He's getting old turns 24 in May so he needs to be raking in AA or AAA raking like this if he wants a chance to be anything in the MLB. Maybe Jonathan Davis to AA, Andrew Guillotte to High A soon

As always, he beat me to the punch with a live scouting report of his start yesterday. Awesome man. Tellez already has 20 BB's!
bendera3 Verified Member Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Does anyone have MiLB.TV? I see they show Bison and Fisher Cats games. Is it worth the $50?
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Does anyone have MiLB.TV? I see they show Bison and Fisher Cats games. Is it worth the $50? I'm sure it's worth it if you like minor league ball. $50 is nothing these days. Watch a handful of games and you'll have gotten your money worth. Although there's not much to watch in Buffalo and New Hampshire. Pompey and Tellez... I think I remember there being some A ball teams with coverage too, so if you watch the schedule you can catch Lansing when they visit, say, the Great Lakes Loons
King Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Does anyone have MiLB.TV? I see they show Bison and Fisher Cats games. Is it worth the $50? I have it. The video quality isn't too great, but if you can handle it, then it's easily worth the $50. And there are a decent amount of Lugnut games on, but they all come from other teams parks. New Hampshire, no scoreboard, pretty low quality. http://i.imgur.com/HOGZogE.png Buffalo is a lot better http://i.imgur.com/c8GQPkf.png
King Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Here are all of Francisco Rios strikeouts from yesterday. I may make some more GIFs if the feedback is good (also if you have any requests feel free to post here). Strikeout #1, 2nd inning vs Elvis Rubio Strikeout #2, 3rd inning vs Luis Aviles. The 1-1 pitch is missing because it wasn't shown on the broadcast. Strikeout #3, 4th inning vs Max McDowell Strikeout #4, 4th inning vs Isan Diaz Strikeout #5, 6th inning vs Elvis Rubio (double steal bonus)
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 ^His breaking ball looked a bit of a hanger at times but that's a nice looking arm for sure. Also who is the catcher in these clips? Other than the poor throwing decision he looks pretty legit.
