WryNGinger Verified Member Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 Barriera season ending surgery. Sounds like it's Tommy John or TJ with a "brace". Not sure what the difference is. I was pretty hyped about the new "pitching lab and advanced analytics" departments after all those improvements were made and all that money spent...but I am not seeing anything close to a payoff do far.

It isn't TJS with a 10 month recovery timeline.

Internal brace procedure is sort of new Done when there isn't a full rupture They reinforce the ligament rather then rebuild it It has a shorter recovery time. Something like 10 months and you are rehabbing, 12 months and you may be activated from the IL. Traditional TJS is more like, 12-14 months until you begin rehab. Sometimes like 15 or 16 months until IL activation.
spats Verified Member Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Watched Mississauga's Connor O'Halloran pitch a nice game tonight. Not overpowering but good mix resulting in 9 k's in 6 plus innings. Not much to see on this Dunedin team. Nimmala looks overmatched at this level.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Spencer Horwitz. Who are the 10 most comparable minor league players? Wade Boggs hit .318 .410 .386 as a minor leaguer. Was in the minor leagues for a while but not as long as Spencer. Spencer is .305 .412 .466 so a bit more pop. If Wade Boggs same genetics came up today what would he hit in the minors and majors? It's a different game so I assume he'd strike out a bit more.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Barger's AAA success is translating so well at the ML level that it is really odd they haven't called up Horwitz yet. This is moronic. If you want to come up with a recent translation factor simply take Schneider/Barger + Clemente and tell us then how these guys are translating from Buffalo. What we are interested in is these guys 2022-2024 Buffalo and Toronto numbers as a group. Eye balling it they hit .270 .390 .480 in Buffalo, .260 .380 .500 in Toronto So they are actually translating at an amazing rate. They met yet fail but if we want to use a low sample size the Buffalo to Toronto translation is pretty damn good.

Too be fair he's had 15 PA's Not every guy they call up from AAA is going to hit the ground running like Schneider and Clement.

Right. And Boggs was an 8 WAR player in his prime. No one is claiming Horwitz is that. The frustrating thing about Blue Jays Message Board is they have no critical thinking skills. A bunch of f***ing Morons except for Spanky, Laika, Connor and JimCanuck. Those four have their differences but all have brain cells. The rest of you have serious issues. The question I have been posing for a year now is give me a list of the 10 most similar players to Howritz and what became of them. No one has answered. YO BRO. 10 homer power. We know that. That doesn't mean he won't be a 3 WAR 1b men. Lot's of guys with 10 homer power in the minors develop 20 homer power in the majors anyway. Of course we can look at the projections which already show Spencer hitting .260 .360 .380. If his defense is OK, like -5 instead of Vlad like -20 that is a 3 WAR player with current league average hitting levels. And he could be better. The projection systems don't work for unique players for what there aren't a lot of comparables. Which is why I am interested in all the guys who hit .340 .440 .480 or so in the international league and what became of them.

I do always find it fascinating to see how quick or slow it takes players to adjust at the ML level. I know it's a super SSS, but Barger is a -76 wRC+ and -0.5 WAR. That's pretty remarkable in just 5 games and 18 PA's. I'd certainly rather get Horwitz up on the big club over someone like Voggy - although there's just not enough at bats for Voggy right now anyway, so they probably want Horwitz getting full time AB's in AAA. If he had some versatility, I'm sure he'd already be on the team.

Odd how that worked itself out so quickly. Do you really struggle this hard with being human? I'm not here often enough to care about any posters (nor do I know ANY of them), but so far I've seen, there are some posters like you who have the literary chops of a dancing plough horse with a peg leg. The_DH Verified Member Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Barger just seemed to show that he wasn't used to major league pitching, he didn't show that he couldn't handle it. Given that we're less than .500, might as well give him some more at bats. The lineup needs some major reshuffle.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Id give Barger more rope for sure. Especially while KK is shelved. KK is probably coming back this weekend or early next week. Unfortunately Barger needs to play pretty much every day, so I see him being sent down when KK gets back. The only other option would be to get rid of Vogelbach, but that doesn't solve Barger's need to play consistently. Replacing Vogelbach with Horwitz would make more sense.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Would prefer Vogelbach cut Same, but it makes no sense in having both Barger and Lukes on the 26. KK maybe had a set back?
