Oh they did the rankings for BA today...

24. Toronto Blue Jays

Top 100 Prospects (2): LHP Ricky Tiedemann (22), SS Orelvis Martinez (90)

The 2023 season was a step back for Toronto’s farm because many 2022 draft picks struggled. Dominican slugger Orelvis Martinez was a rare bright spot, but much of the system’s strength is reliant on top prospect LHP Ricky Tiedemann—who possesses elite upside and pure stuff but also has significant health and durability questions.

See their Top 30 Prospects entering 2024

Previous ranks

2023: 15

2022: 19

2021: 4

2020: 6

2019: 3

Went from 4th to 19th in 2022 after graduating Manoah and Kirk, trading SWR and Austin Martin…

Why such a drop from 2023 rankings to 2024?

"The 2023 season was a step back for Toronto’s farm because many 2022 draft picks struggled."

So they must mean Barriera? Along with our 2nd rounders like Kasevich, Toman and Doughty? Roden was our third rounder and he balled out.

I guess Toman and BB are the main culprits

Toman sucks.

BB gets a mulligan.

I dunno. 2023 was a good year on the farm compared to 2022 IMO. Much better.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Alan Roden impacted this year’s roster. That kid can hit. And we got a couple of OF’s who can’t so if the offense struggles as I would expect it will. Can see Roden stealing at-bats from both Varsho and Kiermaier this season. Wonder it they will start Roden in AAA.

He's GOOD.

Part of why the farm is rated a bit too low right is that a couple of the good prospects aren't scouting darlings. Roden, Schneider (graduated but you get it), Horwitz...

Horwitz has a 2 WAR projection per full season by Steamer and ZIPS and everyone has a 40 FV on him. So the machine says 50 FV and the scouts have him a full tier below.

I dunno. I like our prospects, Barry.

Not impressed with Kiley's work. He was considered the better of the Kiley/Longenhagen duo at FG, but Longen clearly better IMO.

Nobody likes the guy telling them the obvious, that their fat gf is ugly.

This next year is going to be a big one for the farm system. Its why it feels a rebuild is on the horizon without many impact prospects coming up. Now if Ricky establishes himself as a number 2/3 SP, Roden can improve to a 55FV type guy and a few other prospects emerge into 3+ WAR potential, then you can build around a new core.

Now if instead Manoah sucks and the farm system still is a bottom third at this time next year you're probably trading Bo and Vladdy and retooling for another couple of seasons.

You have to think about it if you’re out of it for sure. 1.5 years will net you so much more than one season and you could turn things around pretty quick dealing those guys

I can’t see it happening this year. Hard to see the Jays at only .500 or below by the deadline. And even so, they might still hold onto the current roster and give it one more shot in 2025. Remember how Donaldson was handled? Yeah.

Baseball is a funny game, they could absolutely be .500 at the deadline. If they are and the Dodgers come knocking about Bo you better listen

And their response to you would be something along the lines of "well at least I didn't have to buy her"

Im not excited about Roden at all, hes got like 30 or maybe 35 raw power. Read somewhere his max EV was like 103 or something.

I don't think this info is accurate

There was amateur data where his maxEVs were promising. I remember reading 110 mph at the time of the draft

Hmm ok maybe it was just a typo or something on the report I read. Ill try and find it. 110 max ev would make him a legit dude.

Rekt!

I didn’t see his reply as he’s my only ignore person. Actually I’ve been looking domestic now on a Muslim dating app. Upped the age range. I’ve been a little focused on work though and haven’t followed up on anything yet. I’ll keep you posted as I know you’re curious.

Keep digging, meat. You have me confused with BTS, I think you're a fool.

BTS is the most sensible one here. Whenever he tells me my contrarian views got stretched too far, it’s prob true. I’ve come to respect this gift of his.

Interesting listen. They actually praise the pitching development and think they are doing a good job there.

They knock the hitting side more and compare them to the Indians and think their cautious draft approach has lead to "a lot of guys (45s) but not a lot of dudes (55s and 60s)."

Furthering their criticism of the position player side, I think they sum it up best when they state that there aren't many guys who can have an impact on both offense and defense. The bat first prospects have questions with the glove and the glove first prospects have questions with their bat. They kind of suggest that they should take more risks with the hit tool in order to get guys with more power or glove.

I wonder what a drunk, candid Ross Atkins at his cousin's wedding would say about their actual strategy and approach.

Does Ross even drink? How many white claws would it take to loosen his lips
