Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 Doubtful unless he gets those walks under control. He'll be moving up big man. You can bet on that.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 Moreno went 3-3 on September 9 and was pulled before his fourth plate appearance. He didn't play on September 10. He took one plate appearance on September 11 and was pulled again. Hasn't played since. Anybody have any idea what's up with him? I hope he didn't reaggravate his injury somehow. Seems likely, most likely soreness in the surgically repaired hand. They can stay cautious with him as he'll likely be playing winterball.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 He'll be moving up big man. You can bet on that. Well sure, moving up from obscurity to "maybe kind of worth keeping the corner of the eye on"
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 Well sure, moving up from obscurity to "maybe kind of worth keeping the corner of the eye on" First year of pro ball and he's improving, was drafted this past year in the 3rd round, he's certainly a guy to keep an eye on, prospectslive has him ranked 9th as Jim just posted above?

John_Havok looks to giving Palmer the Keith Law Cavan Biggio is not a prospect treatment.

metafour Verified Member Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 Trent Palmer hasn't given up a single HR all season (in 63 IP) and has allowed just 33 hits with 83 strikeouts. It's pretty overpowering stuff by those metrics (and his pre-draft scouting reports) with control being the only obvious issue. He is a real prospect and we actually went slightly over-slot to sign him out of the 3rd round last season (he also had promising advanced metrics in college IIRC). This isn't a random prospect. His control has been a lot better in the 2nd half of the season.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2021 Posted September 17, 2021 Apparently, lol. I'll put my record against Keith Law's any day. Hell, I'll put YOUR prospect record against Keith Law's any day.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 Moreno to AAA Then to AFL, and then to Jays in early 2022. 3B, hopefully.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 Finally! Arent all the Bisons games televised? And I believe MILB TV is free rest of season so could be a great opportunity to to get a good look at him.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 Cool. No Moreno, Martinez or Groshans has made prospect watching fairly dull.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 Moreno to AAA This is such fun and amazing news. He needs to play more Baseball.
FantasyNewb Verified Member Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Can someone explain the risk assessment for prospects on Fangraphs? There are so many high risk players and the only player with "low" risk on the first page (aside from Detmers) is Volpe? I mean Witt Jr. and Julio Rodriquez are considered "high" risk, and ranked higher than Volpe. This is his breakout season and is only in A+. Rodriguez is in AA at the same age with a longer track record. Is it a Yankees thing?

Usually if a position prospect is elite defensively, the low risk label is assigned, or if a pitcher has a quality arsenal with good control/command, low risk is assigned. I wasn't aware of Volpe being ellite defensively, Peraza is better defensively within the Yanks org and is medium risk despite between 1 yr older and two levels higher. Low risk for Volpe is a ???

Rodriguez is in AA at the same age with a longer track record. Is it a Yankees thing? It's variance between a player's ceiling and floor, doesn't have much to do with rankings and FV, here's Longenhagen on it... This column is titled “Risk” because “Variance” is too long to put in a column header, but that’s what it means. The column can say “Low,” “Medium” or “High.” For younger prospects, variance is the distance between what I believe their ceiling and floor to be. So high-variance prospects are boom-or-bust types and lottery tickets, while low-variance prospects have a narrower band of perceived possible outcomes. As players move to the upper levels of the minors, I look to adjust variance down since the physical development that makes younger prospects have higher variance has typically occurred. Older/upper-level prospects with high variance are ones who I think may have volatile year-to-year performance, like a Carlos Gómez or Javier Báez type of player. These are often hitters with some exploitable trait, like a bad approach or a hole in their swing.

Thanks for the info. Geez, has there ever been a bigger drop in such a short amount of time than Gore? He was ranked 2nd with a 70 FV as recently as the middle of February. Now he's 102 with a 50 FV.
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 So we just gonna send Moreno to AAA and then not play him????

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Moreno isn't even on the bench, so maybe he's still rehabbing? Are there any Covid protocols in the minors? Maybe he isn't with the team yet?
