There is a scenario where Orelvis starts in AA next year, keeps destroying baseballs, and is manning 3rd base for the Jays by midseason 2022. Unlikely, but if this kid keeps this up.....

I like your enthusiasm, but no one can keep this up

Since like May 28th or May 29th, Austin Martin has a .440 OBP, a 17.0 BB%, and a 17.6 K%.

The elite approach at the dish is definitely translating from college to the pros. Its kinda shocking tbh. Going from college ball, granted it was the highest level of competition college can offer, straight to AA and just not being fazed at all is really impressive. Now just needs to figure out a way to develop some power. Im getting strong Anthony Rendon vibes from him.

Adam Kloffenstein had a very bad start. 1.2IP, 3H, 6ER (7R), 4BB, 2K.

ERA up to 6.16 for the season. Not great.

I think it's an awful lot to ask of him to develop an MLB capable defensive toolset at such a young age.

As I said, unlikely scenario, but we have seen it before with other prospects

Jays management has shown they are not scared in the slightest to really push their prospects. That's part of what makes it so disappointing that Moreno ended up getting hurt, in that he very likely would have forced his way onto the Jays roster this summer if he continued to torch minor league pitching the way he was.

Would yall do Biggio + Groshans + SWR for J-Ram?

I think that's pretty fair. One of the top 10 players in baseball for a cheap controllable big leager and two top 75ish prospects. Does Cleveland say no? Does Atkins?

I would make that trade in a heartbeat. This feels a little light on the Blue Jays end to me though. For comparison Minnesota is reportedly asking for a similar return for Berrios to what you've proposed for Ramirez.

Well Minnesota is shooting out the ass if they want even close to that for Berrios. Berrios might get you one of those guys plus a couple of lower prospects if that.

As for J-Ram you could throw in like Otto Lopez or Samad Taylor or some other pop up guy, or a really low level guy like estiven Machado or Castro.

Minnesota management has stated that they aren't very interested in trading Berrios, and the reported asking price really backs that up.

I like the idea of thinking outside the box and trading for Ramirez, and then using Semien to acquire prospects in return. These prospects could be utilized in addition to remaining prospects in the system to attempt to acquire a good quality controllable starting pitcher. Alternatively since Ramirez is so inexpensive there may be dollars left over to sign one of the good free agent shortstops. Imagine the idea of adding Correa on top of Ramirez, Bichette and Guerrero. That's the kind of infield dreams are made of. That wouldn't likely leave many dollars left over for the pitching staff however, and that could end up holding that club back just like the bullpen injuries did earlier this season.

In his last 30 games, Groshans is hitting .327/.408/.527. And has 15 walks to 21 strike outs.

If Groshans can get over his durability issues, he's right up there with Moreno and Orelvis for me. He's performed at every level, and injuries I think, is really what has kept him from having breakout year like the two more touted prospects.

So similar issue to Pearson?

Pearson's issues are more serious, and he's also not as young. I'm starting to worry about his long term value. With Groshans, I still have confidence he can reach his ceiling.

Kevin Smith homered again, 2-for-4 so far. Up to 17 homers for the year now. Also has 13 steals.

I don't think this has been posted yet:

I have never really thought about Kevin Smith too much, but he is having a tremendous MiLB year.

He is also rule 5 eligible.

Is he a trade candidate? Or does he have a chance to make the roster?

His FV is 40...meh.

He should get a shot to be our version of Chris Taylor, a guy who can work his way in to the lineup 5 times a week in 3 or 4 different positions.

You can effectively ignore that 40FV at this point as that was based on the disappointing 2019 season. With the monster season Smith is putting up now he had re-established himself as a very good prospect. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him showing up in top 100 prospect lists.

His value has no doubt gone up but even before his horrible 2019 he wasnt a top 100 guy, he was probably close but a quick check of mlb pipeline after the 2018 season shows he was our 6th ranked prospect but probably in the 150 range overall. Hes obviously having a great bounce back season but dont think its good enough to move him back into top 100 range.
