I don’t know anything about Estrada except what I was able to glean from Wednesday’s data output. Estrada’s curveball averaged just shy of 3,400 rpm. If that’s what he’s capable of doing consistently, he’d be comfortably atop the major league average curveball spin rate leaderboard. I’ve never had this kind of immediate access to data before, so I’m not sure how spontaneously aggressive to be with putting someone like Estrada on a prospect list after just looking at pitch data without ever having laid eyes on him. But even though he hasn’t performed at an elite level, he’s someone who needs to be monitored because of his talent for spin.

I see Curtis Taylor got promoted to AAA and pitched for the Bisons last night, striking out 5 batters in 2 innings pitched.

Taylor’s stretch with Toronto in the Fall was the first time the org’s dev group had really gotten to see him throw in person, as he was hurt when they acquired him from Tampa Bay for Eric Sogard. It was the second time Taylor was dealt; the first was when the Rays acquired him from Arizona for Brad Boxberger. Taylor was shut down and given a PRP injection to remedy a UCL strain without surgery and didn’t pitch the second half of 2019. Before he was shelved and traded, he was typically throwing 35 to 50 pitches once every three to five days, seemingly in preparation for some kind of multi-inning role, and that seems to be what he’ll be doing for Toronto. At full speed he works in the mid-90s, generates huge extension, and bends in some above-average sliders. He was more 91-93 at instructs. (Fall Instructional League)

Yeah, it's a good poll question. I stayed with Big Nate, their a 1a 1b scenario, SWR will be a 1c soon, good problem to have.

Has anybody tried making another team an offer for a big star?

 

Like if we want Kris Bryant would the cubs fans want Pearson or Manoah as part of the package? (not trying to debate whether we should trade for Bryant, just curious which prospect other fans would want, that would be a good tell)

Gabriel Moreno has been exceptional, would be really surprised if he doesn’t make the midseason top 100.

Skinny: On a team littered with Top 100 prospects, Moreno’s start to the season has been loud. As of May 16, Moreno, who entered the year as the third-youngest player in the Double-A Northeast League boasted a circuit-best .444 average and placed third with a .524 on-base percentage. He’d also thrown out 40% of runners trying to steal.

The tools are a bit off in my opinion. They’re a bit conservative on new prospects that enter the rankings. Should be closer to:

AND the Jays have a LOT of young. low minors, talent. I love what Shapiro and company has done. And we are starting to see the rewards of the process...we should have a young competitive team indefinitely.
