Lourdes Gurriel is slashing 366/409/707 in AAA.

 

It would be nice to get a report on his D, not worried much about his bat, but he's played 2nd/SS and 3rd, I assume he's gotten past the yips. Wouldn't mind seeing them move him around in the OF as well.

What do you make of Cavan Biggio's start? Can you chalk it up to just a hot start or the new ball at AAA or is this a continued progression from last year. Does he have a chance to crack the top 100?

 

Josh Norris: Second part first: We are meeting this afternoon (probably right after this chat) to discuss our next Top 100 update. Biggio, who is off to a smashing start, will obviously be in the discussion for entry into the list. First part second: This is going to be a battle we fight all year. We all anticipated the new baseball at Triple-A causing offensive explosions, but this is obscene, and it might get worse when the weather warms up in the East. If this change is permanent, power is going to become very difficult to project. I was discussing this last night with an evaluator and came to the conclusion that you should take whatever home run output you think the player might have, then add 10. Side note: I bet the offensive explosion offsets any gains in pace of play in the minor leagues.

"Evaluators" are cracking their old calculus textbooks open to try to figure out how to interpret AAA numbers, when wRC+ already f***ing exists.

 

Biggio 2018: 145 wRC+ in AA

Biggio 2019: 168 wRC+ so far

 

He's off to a great start but it's not that hard to put it in context. It's also not other-wordly at this point. Fair to give him some helium but it's too early to say that he's the Jays' 4th best prospect or anything like that.

Anyway, Pearson should also be in the discussion of best pitching prospect.

 

Mize is an advanced pitcher who should be killing it against minor league players that have never seen him before.

The great news is that I'm now projected to hit 10 HR's if I played in AAA

actually it was Avila that made the comp by saying Mize is more advanced than Verlander at this point in his life. He actually said that his secondary pitches are more advanced but it's fun to throw this on someone else. I actually believe that Mize is going to be a number 1 and tried to pursue him in one of our leagues this off season.

League average K rate in 2005 was 6.38/9, last season it was 8.53 K/9. Verlander was also coming off 86 IP at A+ with 104 strikeouts and 19 walks. Don't play this game with me Hurl.

Why is he saying 3B though..? Is he saying that his bat is so strong that you need that production from 3B and not a SS or saying defensively he won't stick at SS..? Not sure why the 3rd base reference...

He might not be our 4th best prospect, but Biggio deserves consideration for backend top 100.

How can SRF be this bad? Even in my worst dreams I never thought he would be this bad, He must be raging alot again or hurt? I know he has/had major anger/rage issues...

He's now 3-for-5 today with a homer and a double in the 2nd game of the day for the Bisons.
