Alford pretty much played the whole season this year. He just flat out sucked.

He's probably still top 20, but chances of him being a non zero at this point are pretty low.

He had hamate bone surgery. Doesn't it normally take a year of AB's to get back to normal? Maybe it turns out he isn't very good, but I wouldn't give up on him. 2019 will be a big year for him to see whether he can get back to his top prospect form.

Alford is already a 4th OF floor with his defensive abilities in CF alone.

He would probably be better defensively in CF than Pillar next season.

Does Justin Maese even have a shoulder anymore?

Way too high, Todd!

Yes. He'll be using his left shoulder going forward. As fresh as a daisy.

That's what I thought. And he also had hamstring troubles the 1st half of 2018 season.

I can't find his 2018 AAA splits but believe he was much improved the 2nd half.

Spanberger's Dunedin BB/K with 70 grade power would be damn interesting if he can maintain it (small sample alert).

And I'm still an Alford believer.

With how deep the blue jays prospect pool is getting how long

are you going to wait for this guy. This will be year 8. And the first

two were part time. And the last 5 he's sucked on all of them.

Wrc+ between 115 and 153 in every minor league season that he wasn't splitting with football time.... with 1 exception, 2018.

I wish all our farm hands sucked so bad.

You're right, but that was in May of 2017.

He was awful in April/May 2018, but did get better from June 2018 onwards (though still not great). The track record aside from 2018 is there and he got a late start. He could easily look like a big league CF by some time in 2019.

I agree for the most part, this year is certainly huge for Alford, he has to make the step or fall into obscurity.

Put it in terms todd understands...Alford has never had a season with a BA over .300 while in the minors.

I'm so torn between telling you not to feed the troll and using my '#facts' gif...

Jays farm system already has outfielders close or already passed Anthony Alford on the depth chart

and more on the way with draft coming. The jays have tried to help him though this with Devon White and Joe Carter

helping him he's just not getting it. Other jays fans and scouts are starting to see this.

Some serious cherry picking going on here

Some serious cherry picking going on here

2015

A: 143 wRC+, 232 PA

A+ 153 wRC+, 255 PA

2016

A+: 115 wRC+, 401 PA

2017

AA: 135 wRC+, 289 PA

(didn't use numbers from A+, AAA, and MLB that year because the sample was practically nothing)

2018:

AAA: 87 wRC+, 417 PA

I mean, if you think he was exposed in AAA then fine, we'll see in 2019 if that's true, but given the nature of his injury, he gets a bit of a pass from me for last season. Otherwise, the track record is right there.

I'm still on team "Trade Pillar and throw Alford into the fire as the starting CF for 2019"

My rationale there is that Pillar is terrible with the bat, and I can't see any difference between the two as black holes in the lineup (though Alford has upside in the bat that Pillar does not have) and at this point, Alford is probably as good (or at least in the neighbourhood) in CF as Pillar.

I don't think we'll get anything of great value for Pillar, but he's really not needed on the 2019 Blue Jays, and we don't really lose much, if anything, by replacing him with Alford.

I mean worse case scenario if Alford does not pan out we have Grichuk that can play pretty good CF.

It'd be worth trading Pillar for a nothing prospect just to see first the fanbase melt down, then the reaction here to that reaction, haha.

Do the casuals even still give a s*** about Pillar? Pretty sure everyone is over him.

Kids and women love him... Thats about it. I think most people see him as a replaceable outfielder. He would be a great 4th OF but i doubt he would like that too much.

Superman Pillar is easily the fans’ favourite player. TBF he doesn’t have much competition (until Vlad arrives).

But Grichuk was starting to become very popular with the ladies.

Kevin Pillar is viciously underrated, somehow, after being previously very overrated.

He's durable, reliable, consistently league average with equivalent projections, he is 29 with two years of control, and he doesn't cost much.

His 10.1 fWAR over the last four seasons makes him a top ~30 outfielder in baseball. f***, you can do a lot worse than that. And depending which religion you belong to he might be significantly better - his bWAR is a much higher 13.5 over than span (his career DRS is double his UZR!!!).

I don't like watching him hit either, but c'mon. I am very much opposed to trading him just for the sake of an Anthony Alford trial-by-turf.
