It's like his prospect value has barely moved since the draft. Obviously he can hit, the stats/peripherals/age are good (he was the 6th youngest qualified player in the California league), but he needs 60 game power if he's ever going to be a useful MLB player.

If he was a Mets prospect everyone would love him. It basically all comes down to whether or not he learns to hit with power consistently in games. He's not going to be a guy like Smoak who will hang around until he's 30 getting a chance to figure it out because of defense, a good work ethic, etc.

I wouldn't care about owning him in, say, a 20 team dynasty league. Meh. Fat.

You're likely right, because he's a prospect, I wouldn't bat an eye yet, not even close, meat.

AA San Antonio Missions are in the playoff hunt whereas the A+ Lake Elsinore Storm are in last place. Maybe they wanted to promote him while also giving him a taste of some minor league playoffs?

That's exactly why and they see no harm at this point, fun to stat scout though.

Njh agrees. ^^^^

Not that we need anymore Vladdy porn, but ...

Over his last 10 he's hitting .417 with 3 HR, 11 RBI, 6 walks and 6 Ks.

Overall slash line up to .336/.456/.492, wRC+ of 180

As an 18 year old.... in one of the most pitching friendly leagues in the minors.

does Vladdy impact on the JD offseason decision?

if Vladdy is proving to be adequate at 3B, would it not make sense to move JD for other assets, anticipating VGJ is the starting 3B in 2019?

Maybe? If, and this is a big if, they can convince JD to sign something similar to what Cespedes signed for, they should do it.

He could be a great mentor for Vlad and Bo once they come up, and his peripherals suggest he's not declining offensively just yet. K rate is up, but that's more due to the slow start with the helmet guard.

I'd like to give Kacy Clemens some love on here since not many people talk about him. I've had the chance to see him live in Vancouver a couple times now, and I'll say that he never concedes an AB. Very smart hitter. I'm not saying he's Joey Votto, but that's sort of the vibe I get off him. Very smooth and effortless swing as well, and his pitch recognition and eye is off the charts. He can square up fastballs really well and doesn't get fooled by breaking stuff that easy. His AB's were one of the few that stuck out to me no matter what the result. Not extraordinary power, but the potential is definitely there in the future. Runs deceptively well for a guy his size and plays a good enough glove from what I've seen. I understand that as a 1B, his bat has to play exceptionally well for him to be considered an impact guy, but I'd definitely keep an eye out on him.

Cavan Biggio has also had a power surge out of nowhere. 11HR in Hi-A this season, although the K-rate issue is real. But it's cool to think that our potential infield of the future could be comprised of sons of prominent major leaguers

Vlad at 3B

Bo at SS

Biggio at 2B

Clemens at 1B

Biggio is least likely to stick as a regular, but could be a capable backup. Warmoth at short seems likely, and Bo to 2B.

I don't think they'd make any JD decisions based on Vladdy at this point. There's still enough of a question mark around his 3b D that it's no sure thing he's a 3b long term

Danny Jansen just went yard for his 2nd AAA home run.

I had literally just typed this same thing word for word just as you did.

Alford just hit his 5th HR

Hopefully he is back up in September getting the majority of ABs in the outfield somewhere

And all of next season and beyond.

Alford in RF or LF with Pillar in CF would greatly improve the outfield defense from the current cluster f*** that it is.

Alford could play CF also but I doubt they shift Pillar yet

Shift Pillar, no, but maybe they trade him?

It feels so foreign to think that we might have actually good position players coming down the pipe (or up it, so to speak).

If there comes a time where Alford bumps him from CF I'd hope Pillar gets dealt, his bat just doesn't play in a corner.

Should really try to move Morales this season, even if we have to eat some cash. Pearce should be the primary DH next season.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Might target Paredes, Mountcastle and Helesley for now.

Pedro Avila is looking mighty interesting as well.

His bat really doesn't even play in CF...

honestly, when Pillar is cheap I don't have any issue with him in CF. He actually has seemed to improve with the bat this year, but is rocking a low BABIP. With the improved plate discipline and pop I think he's likely at least a true talent 95-100 RC+ guy. Couple that with defense (still p-valuable even in a down year defensively). We could do worse while he's cheap.

I'd probably roll with him in CF and Alford in a corner till he starts making some money, then trade him.

Don't hold your breath. Pillar is all D and no bat and that's how it is. It's not even that he doesn't have the bat to ball skills to be a better hitter, he's just dumb as f*** in what he chooses to swing at.

Well Danny Jansen is officially an idiot.

In what might be his final AB and having a chance for the cycle, needing a double, he goes and hits a solo HR.

f***in' clown.

Hopefully this goes to extras so he can redeem himself

well hes already logged a 93 and 92 RC+ season. so its not that crazy a proposition that a .300 BABIP with improved patients and pop would yield an almost league average bat.

In either case, we've seen him be a 3+ win player with mainly defense. When he's cheap I think you put that in the bank.

We have put it in the bank for 4 seasons. When his defense inevitably slows down as he ages, he'll be a bench rider for the remainder of his career
