John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Pearson making his debut for Vancouver Nice beginning for him. Struck out the side all though first guy reached on a wild pitch and reached 3rd with nobody out. He got out of the inning without the run scoring. Should be 2 or 3 innings for him I woild guess being just his 2nd start since the draft. And yup, taken out after 2 IP. 31 pitches, 22 strikes. 3 K, no walks, no hits. Maybe they let him go 45-50 pitches next start.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Bo Bichette taken out of the game after being thrown out trying to steal second base. He was having a perfect night at the plate 1-1 with a walk and being hit by a pitch. Hopefully nothing serious.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Borucki absolutely incredible in his first AA start against a tough Trenton Thunder offense. There's more reason to get excited for him than Greene or Harris at this point. Seems more like good BABIP luck than him being absolutely incredible. Missing bats is more important than getting lucky that balls are hit at fielders.

I love how you automatically assume "BABIP luck" when I'm sure you've seen pitchers dominate games on weak contact.

He was also averaging over 10k/9 at high A, so it's not as if he hasn't shown swing and miss stuff all year.

Laika Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 The mlb.com midseason top 100 dropped. Vlad #6 Bo #30 Alford #49 Hagen Danner the #9 C prospect (Pentecost is higher than him on the team top 30, but I guess they aren't counting him as a C right now). Pardinho is slotted at #15 on the team list. Harris tumbles to #19

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Devers #4. Dinger will be most pleased.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Willy Adames now has a 13% walk rate. He's 21 in AAA.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Devers #4. Dinger will be most pleased. IMO he's the best hitting prospect right now. Comps I'd throw on his bat: Jose Abreu, Aramis Ramirez, Adrian Beltre. No other high minors prospect has his power/hit combo.

Hopefully the prediction turns out correct: "Last week, the high-A Dunedin Blue Jays posted a photo of three members of their team -- Cavan Biggio, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette -- with the caption "Biggio, Guerrero, Bichette: The Sequel." The 44-54 Blue Jays might not have a ton to be thrilled about this season, but there are clearly better days on the horizon."

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 So that's one top 10 prospect, two top 50 prospects, another top 100 prospect and then some fringe just outside top 100 guys and alright depth at the backend of the list. It's not quite the White Sox but it's pretty darn good.

And I feel our chances of competing in 2018 are at best just as bad as 2017, so why not just go full White Sox and rebuild now?
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 SRF dropped a fair bit. I can understand him dropping because his peripherals have not be SRF like this season, but how Greene and Maese rose above him is beyond me??

Stroman is the one guy we can move and get something like that back. Maybe Osuna. Sanchez when he's healthy can as well but this has pretty much been a lost year for him.

Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 Ryan Borucki should be in that top 10.
StroShow Verified Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 It would be awesome if playing with Vlad and Bo ups his game! Biggio's a weird dude. His K% keeps on rising each month, and he's stopped hitting, but he's also walking 21.4% in July and has an OBP of .398. 40% of his walks have come over the past 22 games. He's always been noted for his plate discipline but he seems to be plateauing already as a hitter.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 The team can easily be competitive next year. I'm not sure about easily, but there is certainly hope. I think we need one really good starting pitcher (plus resolving the Sanchez blisters), and either a LF or 2B (Travis could probably move to LF if necessary, which might keep him healthier). That's assuming JB returns of course. Whether management will pony up for any of that is anyone's guess. IF Detroit is willing to dump Verlander's salary without a blue chip guy also coming back, he'd be really interesting as the pitcher (I'm assuming we don't want to pay through the nose for someone like Darvish in FA). Dee Gordon could be interesting at 2B.
