King Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 there may very well be truth to what people are saying about him struggling with better stuff. Just cause you don't want it to be true, doesn't mean it isn't. You've missed the point. Who gives a s*** if he struggled to hit quality stuff in the AFL a year and a half ago (where he had a 127 wRC+). There are way more justified concerns with Tellez than that. If one of these evaluators pointed to his 2016 season and said that he struggled to hit more advanced pitching in AA I could maybe consider it. But even Longenhagen said that there was improvement as he moved up to AA from the evaluators he talked to. So he struggled to hit quality stuff in the AFL in 2015, but he mashed AA in 2016 and improved on his "ability to hit quality stuff".
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 Just motivation for Rowdy. Bottom line is this...there may very well be truth to what people are saying about him struggling with better stuff. Just cause you don't want it to be true, doesn't mean it isn't. It's up to Rowdy to prove whether the bat is for real or can only handle mistakes. I believe Rowdy just takes a bit of time to adjust to better pitching, he's had slow starts every season to new pitching, or is it off-season rust? Either way he adjusts and starts to rake... these small sampled comments seem pretty asinine, to be honest. I'm with King, I'm triggered.

He is going to come up to the Jays Mid Season and we are going to start playing the Bag Pipes from Roddy Pippers theme song and everyone is going to be happy.

Hahaha... that'd be an awesome walk-up song, or ‘It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ’n’ Roll)’ by AC-DC \M/

Didn't the last sentence talk about last season ('better but still apprehensive')? I'm not saying I agree with the report...I don't watch him regularly so how would I know...but I just find it funny how some people get angry boners if everyone isn't fellating all things Blue Jays in unison.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 I hope Rowdy becomes a very good big league player just so it can be a big f*** you to all the scouts that dismissed him after a couple of weeks in the AFL. We also really need a good First Baseman.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Looking forward to seeing Rowdy in TO sometime this summer

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Tellez is somewhat suspect but he's suspect in pretty much in the same way that some much more highly regarded 1B prospects are. He's hardly a sure thing but he's underrated at least compared to other prospects at his position (maybe not so much compared to prospects in general). If I was in a Dynasty draft, I'm be much more into drafting Tellez where you're likely to get him than the 1B prospect ranked ahead of him.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Rowdy Tellez actually has a beautiful swing. I've been saying this for over a year. He's mechanically perfect. He has the elite angles, motions, and actions of a David Ortiz, or a Josh Donaldson...
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Rowdy Tellez actually has a beautiful swing. I've been saying this for over a year. He's mechanically perfect. He has the elite angles, motions, and actions of a David Ortiz, or a Josh Donaldson... That does look beautiful and fluid with great weight transfer. I wonder why scouts never comment on that? I would imagine being around JD, Tulo and Bautista each Spring Training should help him even more. He seems like a knowledgeable sponge to that type of stuff.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 It's because he's fat. That's the whole answer. You can't have such a modest K% for a power hitter by guessing on fastballs. I really think you're right. Well, probably right. AJ Reed also never received big scout love... probably because he's fat. Yet people adore athletic first basemen like it matters at all that Ronald Guzman is thin or Cody Bellinger could maybe play CF if you asked nicely.

I really wonder if the Blue Jays have added any hitting gurus to their coaching staff. I mean they have a first hand look at how Donaldson and Bautista made swing changes. They need to hire the Tewksbarry's of the world and spend some $ having software like HitTrax etc. I find it weird how you see all these development facilities like Driveline and that yet MLB facilities are garbage in comparison and have outdated equipment.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Prospect that might be as exciting to watch as vlad = a very short list Kopech (100! and he punches people!) Espinoza/Groome/Yadier Alvarez - if projectable future Aces are what you're into Francisco Mejia - do you like hit streaks? Rowdy Tellez - do you like watching Kieth Law shrink into irrelevance? Moncada Matt Chapman - i mean, double plus arm, plus field and plus raw power is a viewer's delight tool package. (but this is "exciting to watch" and not really "exciting to follow." Lewis Brinson is cool too. Pick any of the top 6 shortstop prospects - do you like shortstop prospects? Robles/Moniak... Leody Taveras maybe

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Where is Mejia landing on the prospect lists? Is he legit? 60/70 hit, 55 raw power, 70 arm, can absolutely catch. His ceiling is essentially Posey/Lucroy/Yadi/Young Mauer, in other words, he could be the best C in professional baseball if he maxes out his development.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 overrated for me. Undersize how tall was Pudge? How big is Martin? big isn't even an asset for a catcher. Compact frames seem to work well.

Big catchers are better because every time Salvador Perez is behind the plate and takes one off the mask the announcers tell me they are.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 A healthy Alford could quickly join that list
