I was freaking out every round that we passed on him, much to the chagrin of the other forum members. Then I was elated when we finally got him, only to be disappointed in the end. What a roller coaster ride.

I remember being glued to the internet during the final hours of that negotiating period and reading in a couple of places that he turned down $1m from the Jays. Meaningful could also mean that he was looking for $2m and an offer of $1m was meaningless to him.

He slipped because he made it well known that without like, 5M+ he was going to college.

All that's really known about Bryant's demands is that he said there was no number that would get him to sign (but that's almost never actually true) and that Josh Sale was thought to be the better power bat and he only signed for 1.62M. The way most scouts worded it was that the demands wouldn't match the talent (the scouts were obviously wrong) Essentially if you weren't willing to meet the rumours of his demands (said to be top 10 money) then picking him was a waste (wasting an 18th rounder really isn't a big deal). Keep in mind BA ranked him 53rd. Law 41st, and MLB prospects 43rd (these are the only three rankings I can still see).

If they had signed all of those guys, could have been one of the best drafts in Major league history by one team.

Expos 2000 was Cliff Lee, Russell Martin, Grady Sizemore, Jason Bay, Shawn Hill, Fred Lewis, Jeff Karstens.

2005 Angels drafted and didn't sign Posey, Chris Davis and Matusz (who never panned out but hit top 5 prospect status and had a shitload of trade value).

1977 Expos Raines, Gullickson and Sanderson 120 bWAR

1987 Astros drafted Biggio, Kile, and Scott Eriksson for 110 bWAR

1999 Cardinals Pujols, Crisp and Duncan for 133 bWAR

1976 Red Sox Boggs, Hurst and Smitson for 132 bWAR

As for Depth. The Moneyball year for the A's had: Swisher, Blanton, Teahan, Baker, Burton, Zeigler, Papelbon.

same year the Red Sox had Lester, Moss, Ellsbury, Bannister and Ricky Romero.

That's not even including some of the classes dominated by 1 person.

10. Anthony Alford, of, Mesa (Blue Jays)

If ranking the AFL position players just on tools alone, Alford would most definitely be at or near the top. With a collection of four plus tools—speed, power, range and arm—and supreme athleticism as well as sound hitting instincts, Alford just needs more development time to refine his approach at the plate. The former college football player missed part of the 2016 regular season to a pair of injuries and was making up for the lost time in the AFL. The 22-year old outfielder put up impressive numbers (.253/.349/.440, three homers, eight stolen bases) before going down with an injury late in the season.

Something tells me that BA is going to have quite the debates this year in their top 100. John Manuel loves the Jays spects. Bill Mitchell loves the tools but has questions. Vincent Lara-Cinamoso sees Barretto as a top 20 guy, but Mitchell puts him at 13 just from the AFL guys. Lists like the Royals are all over the place in opinions. Really going to be a lot of anger when their lists hit.

Maybe the BJMB should do one and prove the rest wrong! We Rock !!!

High praise from the brass means one of two things:

1) He is good

2) He is trade-bait

Didn't Nestor Molina get pumped through the roof right before getting traded?

Old regime...and Atkins knows who to listen to on this board.

Borucki is a lefty with some promise. That alone justifies the 40 man roster spot. It's kind of insane the struggles the Blue Jays have had with LHP going back to last year's playoffs when the Loups had their baby.

All while rostering an elite $30M*** lefty.

Do you guys think they turn him into a reliever? Health issues and all. Consistently in the mid 90's as a lefty reliever is exciting

Has hired velocity jumped? He was 90-92 T94 the last I checked.

That said, there's always a chance he moves to the pen... But I think it would be more likely that it's due to performance than health.

His health has always been a problem. 2016 was the first year since he was drafted that he managed to not get injured for the entire season.

2012: 6IP

2013: 0IP

2014: 50IP

2015: 5IP

2016: 135IP

I have a hard time believing that he would hold up in an MLB rotation for 200+ innings season after season, at this point.

I'm not saying that his health hasn't been an issue...I'm just saying that I think they'll decide that he's more likely to be more successful as a reliever (due to performance issues) before they give up on him as a starter because of health. Both are realistic options though.

This is purely to protect him form the minor league portion of the rule 5 draft. He'd have been gone in a heartbeat.I doubt they see him as major league ready right now

I don't think anyone suspects he'll be in the majors this upcoming season but putting a A+ pitcher on the 40 man roster seems stupid if they aren't planning to fast track him
