Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 So is Harris already in bust territory or what?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 So is Harris a bust or what? Considering the fact that most prospects are busts even many of the ones who are younger and play a lot better, you'd definitely put your money on bust.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 Weird, maybe it was just my tablet that doesnt't see the full site The mobile version of the site doesn't have that option. You have to disable the mobile site and view it in Full Website mode and then you should be able to access it.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Is Adonys Cardona still considered a good prospect? I remember at one point he was throwing 99MPH, but he could never command it. Have they moved him into the bullpen permanently?

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Good FO and Development track record- Yes. Deck McGuire, Rosie O'Donnell Jenkins, DJ Davis, Jake Anderson,..... Harris could be the next one

Some people just have to try to be the first to say things like that so they can say "see I told you he would never succeed". Given the rate at which prospects busts, it is perfectly reasonable to assume this guy will bust until he actually shows something. Yes he only has one year of pro ball but he's a college guy. He should be cruising through the low minors and he's getting crushed by younger competition. Harris was small school guy so his college performance was less reliable than most. Add a terrible MiLB record to that and it's not a stretch to think that there's just nothing there.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Important to realize with Harris that as a 29th overall pick, there shouldn't be some long assumption that he's good. He doesn't "deserve" two years of rope. He's *basically* a 2nd rounder. Guys taken in his range of the draft fail to make the big leagues at like a 96% clip (I don't actually know the % but I imagine it's close to that). SO! - It's not irresponsible to assume that he's a bust already - You shouldn't be upset if he is a bust, because he wasn't taken that high... this isn't Deck McGuire at 11th overall Sure, they should have picked Cody Ponce or Austin Riley or whoever... but it's the MLB draft.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2016 Author Posted April 16, 2016 Are there any sites that have minor league velocity numbers. Everything is tracked nowadays, kinda surprised if there isn't something out there.

metafour Verified Member Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 New strategy is: College bats instead injury arms or HS arms. They picked 3 HS pitchers within the first 60 picks last year, one of whom was injured LOL.

nmrch Verified Member Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 (edited) Good FO and Development track record- Yes. A good front office and player development make can a difference on the margins but it probably can't help guys like Harris, an old college pitcher who doesn't have great raw stuff and isn't producing results despite the advanced experience. I know you're not saying that but this is gonna be a trend among fans if Sanchez continues to do well. We'll ignore everything we know about prospects and just use Sanchez to criticize sceptics of prospects who never produce results. Edited April 16, 2016 by nmrch

We all want to see Jays prospects succeed but you can learn a lot about someone's potential from what looks like a small sample size. LIke others have said, unless you have an exceptional pedigree, you've got to produce results right away to be the guy that overcomes the odds.
