RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Trouba is trolling again, there hasn't been any word one way or another about Loup. He could be available. I thought it was confirmed yesterday
Governator Community Moderator Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I really hope average Hamels shows up and not the no hitter Hamels.
Governator Community Moderator Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 It's going to feel like 10 or 11 degrees it ain't happening. They didn't open it when it was 18 last week.
EMK19 Verified Member Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 With it being only 13 degrees celcius, dropping to 10 degrees later at night, I very much doubt MLB will open the roof for this one.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 It should have been open for game 1 for sure
EMK19 Verified Member Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I really hope that guys like Revere and Goins try to bunt some along the third baseline today and make Beltre field it. Make him feel uncomfortable running in, crouching, twist and turning and throwing... need to expose him over there until he can prove that he can field those comfortably enough IMO.

Hell yes Please do this Problem is he still has cannon for an arm. But yeah his mobility is atrocious ATM.

Bunting to 3rd base isn't as easy as it sounds. Still have to contend with the pitcher and catcher.
nextyear Verified Member Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Interesting article on why Price was left in for 50 pitches in game 4 - http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/stroman-not-price-is-simply-blue-jays-best-right-now/ an excerpt from the article: . . .The truth is, the Blue Jays – Gibbons in particular – decided that Stroman was going to be their Game 5 starter some time in the third inning of Game 2, when Stroman started to carve up the Rangers after Price did not get a single swing and miss on his fastball in a Game 1 loss to the Rangers – an alarming occurrence that led one Blue Jays executive to suggest off-the-record that Price looked "gassed." And with Aaron Loup not available and Price not used to being warmed up, sat down, and warmed up again, Gibbons resolved to go with Price as long as he could once he put him in Game 4. Fact is, had Price not run into trouble in the eighth, he might have finished it off. Stroman isn’t starting because Gibbons is a fan of the narrative; he is, simply, the Blue Jays best starter right now, with the best stuff. . . . Pretty much confirms what some of us thought. Gibbons didn't want to use David Price in game 5 and that was the reason for pitching him to the point of exhaustion in game 4. In my mind, it also indicates why Gibbons took Dickey out with only one out left in the 5th inning and put Price in - Gibbons needed a good excuse to pitch David Price in game 4. So replacing Dickey with Price had more to do with eliminating Price from game 5 than needing him in game 4.

Apparently Revere did a lot of bunt practice before game 4 and coaching staff encouraged him to use it. Got things started nicely for us with that bunt up the 2B that game so I'm hoping that he could try one along third today. Of course we can't have guys like JD and such bunting up there or waste more than maybe one or two at bats on bunts overall but guys like Revere and maybe Goins (who's been struggling at the plate) I think should try a few. If anything we can do it just to get Beltre to charge in on couple of those even if it goes foul and such, especially early on in the game when he's not fully stretched out yet.

Temperature shouldn't matter at all. Only factor in the decision should be rain/snow worries.

EMK19 Verified Member Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Yup. Especially since hamels will be falling to the 3rd base side. Would need to try to bunt it a bit deeper into third baseline obviously. And even if it's Hamels who fields it (and I have a feeling he'll be instructed to take charge of all bunts on that side if at all possible), he'll still have to do a turning throw and will have to do well to throw our speedier guys out. If lucky, he may even throw it away to give us an extra base. Even if he successfully throws him out, IMO it can't hurt to put some pressure on the pitcher in making him field them. The main thing here is to see/test how good Beltre looks reacting to those balls there. If he's stationary and relatively immobile we'll at least know that he's not all that comfortable up there at all and we can play along in the game with that in mind, and exposing him when necessary.

Exactly It's October in Chicago and New York too I think someone said that there was also an ideal temperature range in which they like to operate the retractable roof and that these current temperatures fall under that or something. Perhaps the Skydome people should have sabotaged it over the weekend so that the roof is "broken" while it is in its open state, then the MLB wouldn't have any choice in the matter, lol. I still think it's silly how MLB gets control of OUR roof all of a sudden just because its the playoffs (although I actually don't believe there to be a huge difference in play with roof open/closed).

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I'm kinda annoyed with Andrew Stoeten for dropping the ball so badly with his ALDS coverage. I've been reading him/DJF for years, and he's posted regularly even when then team was in the doldrums. But now, in the biggest moment in over 20 years, he's gone completely MIA.
