He also said he was the right guy for the situation, how he managed to say that with a straight face is beyond me.

You want guys on this team that don't think they're the right guy for any situation?

Every player on this team thinks they can get the job done whenever called on. I don't want a player that doesn't think that.

No he wasn't; we have a better chance with a K with Osuna then a GB with Sanchez; it was the manager not putting his player in the best position to succeed

If we were actually going for a double play he would have been the right guy, but since we were clearly not we would have been better off with a Strikeout guy like Osuna in that situation instead. Osuna was about to come out too then called back, looking very confused... very, very rarely have I seen Gibby come out then not make a move, that was pretty uncharacteristic for him to be indecisive and ask Sanchez his opinion there.

Should know your strengths and weaknesses. Everyone has them.

I was pretty bewildered when he walked away and Sanchez was still left there. No sense in beating a dead horse though, so I'm just going to leave it alone. At least Yankees lost.

I'm sure he knows exactly what he needs to still work on. Admitting it to the media/public won't and shouldn't happen. If you admit to yourself that maybe you shouldn't be the one in there, you've already lost.

Of course he's not going to admit it. Hence my tongue in cheek remark about keeping a straight face. I would have to believe that he knows there were better options for that particular situation. But what's done is done.

I think every member in the pen thinks they're the right one for the job and when they're out there they can get it done. That's how I want all of my relievers to think. I don't think he thought even for a second 'where's Osuna?'

Didn't work out. It happens.

The magic number is one number lower after tonight.

What's Sanchez supposed to say? "Ya I wish Gibby had gone to Roberto earlier" and then get blasted by everyone for being a pussy. Give me a break.

Well he hit a home run. He botched a hard hit ground ball and he couldn't come up with a very tough pick off of a great play Barney made. I don't think Smoakie was bad at all.

He wasn't bad. Unfortunately his both of his blips led to runs...

Baseball!

Exactly. People just look for anything to get angry about when it doesn't turn out well...even if there's nothing there.

Haha yup, just because he didn't refer to Fangraphs while being bombarded with questions by people who know less than him. GTFO.

Gibby on the other hand should be able to come up better with something than Pierzynski has made a living out of getting clutch hits or whatever he said.

Yes he is. He's just not a robot.

He's also the only guy who got a really good swat off Teheran.

It wasn't just the defence that lost this game, guys.

EDIT:

So the post I'm responding to is deleted.

Okay...

Point stands, though. Smoak is a good defender who had a couple of shite bounces that burned the team.

I think the poster himself got deleted.

Just got off the plane in Australia. Can someone give me a run down on how we did not crush this team? Glad Yanks lost at least. King or TRM tomorrow?

well, it's unfortunate we lost this winnable game. however, with each additional day the standings stay neutral between us and the yankees we're gaining since they have less games to close ground on us.

Yeah, the past two weeks or so it seems as if both teams either win and lose at the same time or each respective series results end up being the same (besides the head to head matchups, obviously). We had this trend early September of 1993 as well (Jays hit a slight funk but so did the Yanks) before we picked it up for good and ran away with it... it psychologically gives the team that is ahead a nice lift.

We couldn't hit at all. Teheran, and their relief crew kept us off balance with sliders all day, I think we struck out 10+ times today or something like that. The top 3 in our lineup went 0-for, and when that happens you know we are in for a tough night...

Teheran stifled a mostly B-lineup for the Jays (compounded by the pitcher hitting). A couple of errors and bad bounces led to some runs. Buehrle wasn't terrible, but the defense pulled some huge DPs to help him out.

A well-pitched game by Atlanta, regardless of their reputation and current skid.

Still don't get why when we had Martin on 1st late in the 8th with Goins/Pillar/Pennington coming up, we put no pinch runners/pinch hitters to try to manufacture a run (especially not pinch running Martin and letting Goins face a LHB killing specialist)... this is September and we have enough personnel to make multiple moves even after Carrera/Cola was earlier used. Gotta play to win on the road...

Now we have Miller tomorrow. f***. Might be another series loss. Luckily the Yanks have Archer tomorrow, so there's some hope.
