devon travis was worth almost twice as much war as ryan goins this year, in 2/3 of the playing time. There's a reasonable chance that if travis doesn't get hurt he's second on the whole team in fwar right now.

As opposed to a long time minor leaguer who has never hit well putting up a decent month or 2 that still isn't better than Travis' line for the year. Yup, makes sense.

Those are completely independent points. You can be uncertain about both of them. Thanks for false dichotomizing though!

The #bluejays officially reinstate @MStrooo6 from DL. @Jenknutz is recalled and @DeVoTrAv moved to 60 day DL. Sadly, he's done for year

Personally I see Goins rising above for the next 6 weeks. This is career defining/contract defining play (in the future, get his name known in the MLB).

Guy plays with an edge. Ive seen him really animated in the dugout.

Longterm ill still take travis but i would have zero issue with goins returning as our starting 2b next year if travis is traded, assuming he doesnt cave in in the remaining games

Everybody should have a lot of issues with Goins returning as the starting 2b next year...

his approach at the plate right now is like a seasoned veteran

guy is taking 5-6 pitch at bats on the regular and walking a ton now. great d as well

if he hits well for the next 6 weeks, he fits very well in the bottom half of the lineup

Yup. But is Goins a AAAA player like Bradley Jr who it looks like has finally figured it out. Some start out like Will Myers and then crater. Some blossom later. Some always suck.

Barry is such a f***ing clown' date=' why are you including the poor kid in your tweet to say he is done for the year[/quote']

Is Barry breaking the news to him?

I don't like Barry either... But he did nothing wrong here.

Too soon to say Bradley Jr has figured it out but at least he has hit in the minors.

Next year both Goins and Travis will be on the 25 man and may the best man win.

I laugh at how skeptical this board is on small sple sizes yet Travis has literally had no more than 2-3 months and he is already a 5 WAR player

Exactly

Pennington will be gone

These two and Tulo will make a nice middle infield trio. Goins can give Tulo days off if needed by playing short too which is really nice.

I just hope Travis stays healthy

and we have all 3 under control for years to come.

If Goins hits well for the next 6 weeks, we should ignore his previous 3300 professional plate appearances? That does not seem very smart.

His batting stance is clearly different and it's a known fact that none worked with him on his hitting in the minors.

With only 1 of the 3 making big money

I like what AA has done here

He really has redeemed himself. I was actually in favour of MIA deal and it didn't work out. Even if they cant win this year they are positioned for next.

The thing to close the loop is ensuring that there is enough of a talent pool like the Travis's(DL) and Pompey's who are cheaper players under control added to vets like Martin, Tulo and JD. Pillar has been a nice surprise in an everyday role. Not sure where we would be without his steady + D and occasional offensive contributions.

Thank god we believed in the adjustments that Jose and E5 made and kept them around instead of looking at their previous success (or lack there of). Obviously Goins is nowhere, I repeat nowhere near those 2, but at some point, it's not that short sighted to forget the past.

Difference being both Jose and Edwin in previous always had high BB% and showed a bit of power.... It is not like they were not taking walks and hitting under 5HR.... They had previous seasons with high OBP and Slugging.... It was just being consistent. This is the first time Goins has shown any kind of patience at the plate and only for a month..... To put him in the same category is very very wrong.

True story. If you look at Edwins CINN numbers he put up some decent numbers. Had 26 Hrs one year and .800 OPS. Enough to get a $6mm deal.

The reason they tried Jose B at leadoff the year he broke out with the 54 HRs was his pitch recognition and ability to get on base. But Brownie does have point. The odd guy gets just seems to click.

The Jays finally have a nice middle infield with an adequate back up, and some really think that makes Travis expendable? Insane.

After the grief we have gone through at 2B, seemingly forever, there is no way I part with Travis.

Nope, especially when you consider Muni Kawasaki is most likely the best in house option to replace Goins' spot in 2016 if you trade Travis.

Tulo/Travis/Goins >>>> Tulo/Goins/Kawasaki

I believe that since Devon Travis is on the 60 day DL, he will still be eligible for the playoffs.

I thought he was ineligible for the playoffs after having been put on the 60-day DL past Aug 1st. Maybe his retroactive placement gets around this?

I read through the following Bleacher Nation article quickly, but it seems that anyone on the 40 man roster as of August 31st can be chosen for the 25 man playoff roster. Devon Travis is on the 40 man roster, and I am quite sure he was on August 31st - http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/team/roster_40man.jsp?c_id=tor

(source: http://www.bleachernation.com/2015/08/31/everything-you-need-to-know-about-todays-deadline-playoff-eligibility-and-september-call-ups/ )

What about players in the organization but not on the 40-man roster? Well, if you weren’t on the 40-man as of August 31, you’re not eligible for the postseason unless you wind up replacing an injured player (guards against teams being screwed by a rash of injuries in September – imagine if a team lost a few catchers and had to try and win with a third baseman behind the plate in the postseason). Under the new rule system where every player on the 40-man is eligible, this injury replacement stuff is less likely to come up, though, since most of the guys you’d even consider putting on a 25-man playoff roster are probably going to be on your 40-man anyway.

In my opinion, if the Blue Jays get to the playoffs with Ryan Goins starting most of the games at 2B during August and September then that is who the Blue Jays should go with. But Devon Travis played well and deserves a spot if there is any chance of him contributing and not hurting himself further.

let OBP(Goins) = .315

let OBP(Pujols) = .311

.315 > .311

Goins > Pujols

That is an odd way of comparing players, so you think that OBP is sufficient?
