fWAR would disagree with you on them being just good. Out of all those guys the only one that can be seen as not likable is Bautista. Hired Guns? Tulo, Donaldson (perhaps the best player in MLB) and Russell Martin are under team control for like 3/4+ years.

Gotta be trolling here.

Why are you arguing with me about my subjective feelings about a baseball team? They're going to make the playoffs, but for various reasons I enjoy watching other teams more. The thread is about Mark Shapiro's hiring, which I think is a fantastic move.

I think people in general try to figure out too soon whether a GM is good or bad. There are those who are/ always have been superb and those who are terrible, but IMO AA fits between those two ranges.

I think he's matured into a smarter GM than he was circa 2012 and has always had the ability to build a farm.

I sincerely hope Shapiro extends AA for his ability to do that and make trades that benefit the team.

Dayton Moore and Brian Sabean too. Both were laughingstocks on a Huntington level until recently.

What do you have to say about their fWAR and them being just "good"? The only hired guns on this team are Lowe, Price and Hawkins in which AA gave up peanuts for. Saying Tulo, Bautista, Martin, Encarnacion and Donaldson are hired guns is pure derp.

They're good, but they're not that likable to me. It's a team of expensive hired guns with no identity or character.

BWHAHA, what nonsense, some of the key players have been a part of the Jays identity for years now. Please.

Seriously? You're picking a fight because I said they're "good" and not "very good"? Don't make me have you banned again brah.

Just calling you out because your argument is ridiculous. Players that are just "good", not a likable team ( subjective but 99% of Canada would disagree) and calling guys like Martin, Bautista, Donaldson, Encarnacion hired guns...please.... just an awful argument all together there BTS...you have to admit that at least.

You seem confused. I wasn't making an argument. I was stating how I feel about the team. I probably shouldn't have done that, but it seems that it wasn't possible for me to comment positively on the Shapiro addition without a bunch of trolling directed at me. Anyway, my feelings (subjective) about the 2015 Blue Jays is that I recognize that they are good (or very good, or the supremely talented gods of the baseball universe, or whatever) but that there are teams that enjoy watching more because I don't love how this one was assembled. You might not understand why I feel that way, but you don't have to.

It would be nice if I could discuss the hiring of a new team president without being jumped on because I don't enjoy watching the 2015 Blue Jays quite as much as you think I should enjoy watching them.

So, you don't enjoy watching a great team due to the way it was assembled...sounds like a load of s*** to me.

Why are you replying to the same guys that think Revere should get more at bats then Tulo

Sue I do. Just not as much as I enjoy watching, say, the Pirates, or the Cardinals, or the Royals. I mean, that's allowed, right? It's OK if like 25% of my baseball watching time is spent on the Jays?

Your argument is nonsensical BS, what does "Not Likeable" even mean? This team is impressive to watch with no real weakness, they play the game the right way...wtf do you expect? It is nonsensical BS as a way to make an excuse for you to not liking the jays. The Jays built the farm system to acquire elite players, what's not to like? Don't like watching amazing players? There is no right/wrong way to build a winner.

You care far too much about how I spend my time. This would be like you saying you prefer fried pickles to nachos because you don't care much for cheese and me writing a paragraph about how that's nonsense because cheese is awesome.

Cheese IS objectively awesome...

I don't care at all, this is a discussion board, if you don't want people to comment on your post don't post at all. Your reasoning is asinine, that is all.

Will your stance on a person change? If AA made a whole bunch of great moves (which seems like he did) will you come around on that person? Neil Huntington with the Pirates seemed like he wasn't a good GM early on but now he is among the best in the game. I don't think you should let a GM stand in the way of cheering for a team.

When you watch the games you are watching a game of baseball. The Jays have some of the most talented and likeable players in MLB even if I didn't believe in the GM I'm still going to cheer for a team with all of these players because honestly its just a really fun team to watch.

My stance on AA probably won't change. I am okay being proven wrong about his ability to put out a sustainable winner... as amazing as it is to believe I have been wrong before. I like the on field product for the Jays in the way I liked the late 90's Yankees... It is more awe and respect (before anyone gets on me i don't think this is a dynasty team). As for likeable... I like the on field product and Stroman

I understand. My point was that Jays just have a really likeable team and even if I didn't like the GM I'm not letting that stand in the way of watching games. Like I'm a Senators fan and I absolutely hate ownership and I think the GM has done an awful job but I still cheer for the team. They have some really likeable players so I don't think I couldn't not cheer for them because I hate ownership.

Everyone is different though. Before, everyone would just watch the local team because they were on TV. Now with MLB.TV, you can watch any game you want. I love logging in and just putting on whatever game catches my interest at the time based on starting pitchers, standings, or whatever. I remember when I was a kid I thought it was weird that someone could be a hockey or baseball fan, but not have a favourite team, but I get it now. People don't have to follow the league through the lens of a single team.

I just posted about how adding Shapiro is a homerun move that could usher in a 10-15 year period of sustained success. It doesn't really get less wet blanket than that.

Where was the sustained success for Cleveland

Sustained success is not possible with a payroll consistently bottom-5 in the league.

Seems to me Shapiro and you are men of excuses. In the same time frame that Shapiro has been GM/President the Twins, Athletics and Rays have all had more success with similar limitations

bottom 5 payroll teams seem to have a 2 or 3 year window for success (Late 2000s Rays, early 2000s A's). Unless a lot of things go right their way in the draft, that window closes when the team stops having high 1st round picks.

Yeah, you have to survive by constantly trading mid-prime stars off for cheap talent, and occasionally you're going to miss. When you do it's tough to recover from.

2012-2014 had some really good A's teams as well. Zero luck in the post season though has the old dinosaurs dismissing Beane's remarkable success as a GM
