Doesn't seem to get on base an awful lot,is everyone still wanting him leading off.

There's about 7 elite-very good hitters on this team. Batting revere 1st and taking away AtBats from any of those guys would be awful. Tulo-Donaldson-Jose is just the best thing ever to start the game with
Posted

The one point to make though, is that he doesn't seem that comfortable being the first hitter of the game. Most guys like to see a pitcher throw a few pitches to get a read on him, Tulo appears to be one of those guys.

And as the first batter of the game, his numbers are terrible. In 11 ABs, he's got 0 hits and just 1 walk for a triple slash line of .000/.182/.000. It's basically a total waste.

At the moment though, it's not like we have a better option. When Travis comes back however, and after a few games of getting back into it, I'd like to see the top 5 look like:

1. Travis

2. Tulowitzki

3. Bautista

4. Donaldson

5. Encarnacion

As the first batter of the game..in a 11AB sample? This is a completely random and useless stat

This is the same guy who tried to "rub it in" after JPA had a 2 week hot streak or something. Not really surprising I guess.

Can we cross reference which posters are voting in favour of moving Tulo to another, arbitrary point in the lineup with those who rage in the "FIRE GIBBY" threads and then do a huge forum purge?

There may only be two or three who overlap, but it'll be worth it.

His three homers aside,he's been less than average leading off since becoming a Jay,

and probably would be a better fit batting fourth or fifth. He never looks happy,so just wondering if he is

comfortable there.

Such stupidity..why are you dis-crediting his entire career and focusing on such a small sample size?

Revere has been awful since he's been here and you want him batting lead off? My god.

The man leaves a cellar dweller in Colorado, comes to the Jays and they are riding an 8 game win streak, in a wild card spot and chasing the division title --- you really think he's unhappy? good god.

Hitting Travis lead-off is a hundred times better than hitting him 9th

Not if it comes at the cost of fewer PAs for Tulowitzki or Donaldson or Bautista. Travis has had a really good rookie campaign despite his missed time. But I'm still not even close to annointing him as a good enough OBP guy to deserve a spot in front of perennial MVP candidates.

You hit your 5 best hitters in a row Travis, Tulo, Donaldson, Bats, Encarnacion - is the order I'd hit them in. It doesn't really matter, the extra PA from the leadoff position to the 3 spot will be marginal.

Over the course of the season there will be separation, but I agree about packing the best guys together. Not sure why you wouldn't just hit Travis fifth in this case, though. Even a marginal difference is a difference. Travis has done nothing to earn more PAs than Tulowitzki or Josh Donaldson, period.

The cookware do not agree.

I don't think Tulo is the goofy type, at least not when he's playing ball. Saw a quote from him somewhere saying that he's more the serious type compared to others, but that it doesn't mean he's not having fun. I don't think he's unhappy.

He is a middle of the order run producer.....that's where he should be....

We have about a half dozen "middle of the order run producers". They can't all hit in the middle.

This is one of the few times that we get to see a Blue Jay manager put someone in leadoff who's actually an amazing hitter and isn't going with the old school philosophy of putting fast contact guys leadoff, and you want him to put Revere instead of Tulo? Come on lol

I definitely want our best hitters getting the most ABs.

To me having Tulo, JD and Bautista be every opposing pitcher's first inning is perfect.

Agreed

That's a pitcher's nightmare having to face those three in the 1st

1000% right

We have an embarrassment of riches in this lineup

It's a nice "problem" to have to put a "good number 3 hitter" in the leadoff spot because you have 4 other guys who are as good or better

I approve this. Isn't the difference between 1st and 5th like 75 at bats? I'm not giving Travis those at bats over Tulo, JD or Bats. Edwin is debatable, but likely still a no.

Guys - we've hit Navarro and Colabello 4th in the past week. We don't have 6 middle of the order run producers.

You could make a comparison to Tulo hitting 1st with Matt Carpenter hitting 1st and Manny Machado hitting 1st, in terms of their repertoire and spot in the order.
