Gets squeezed and gets persecuted and gets trashed on BJMB.... yet through it all he's been one of the better pitchers this year

Yeah no he hasn't.

ok... I have a theory. Since wolfe's brother is a jay, do you think he over compensates to make sure people don't think he's bias? I have thought this before when he has been umping our games. he's been harsh on us before.

Then him not being available to pitch and f*** things up must please you.

Not exactly. I believe there's a legitimate case to be made that he is an effective reliever, but he was not good as a starter. Plus, it's only a few games away and our bullpen is good, I'm not too worried.

Indeed. He looks a lot better out of the pen.

he is much better just throwing hard and letting his pitches tail instead of trying to work in all his pitches and trying to keep in the game for 6 innings. Solid so far (SSS) coming in throwing fire for an inning.

Amazingly, he even seems to be mixing in his curveball more often as a reliever, even though I don't recall it being very effective just yet. Nice to see.

has to have something to mix in but his fastballs has so much movement when he throws it hard enough. He could be a very good late innings guy going forward but I don't see him being a starter.

Osuna on the other hand I can see being a top tier starter for us, but we won't know until he gets starts next year.

Sanchez is getting better and more confident each time out, and still only 23 yrs old. He will be a starter and turn into a quite good one.

He was starting to show legit stuff in the rotation before he went down (his last 4 games he had xFIP of 3.73, 3.22, 4.34, and 3.58). His only real issue has been the walks. If he can get those under control, he could be very good, very quickly. It's nice to see that he could fall back on being a very high end reliever if he fails in the rotation though.

Could be.... I'd put Osuna ahead of him.

It's close

Sanchez as a reliever 38.2 innings, xFIP = 2.98

Osuna as reliever 48.2 innings, xFIP = 3.43

Sanchez has his struggles with walks as a starter, Osuna may have his own struggles (probably not with walks)

I'd call it a wash

Osuna has that xFIP because he's an extreme flyball pitcher and that isn't evaluated properly by that metric. His SIERA is more indicative of his performance, at 2.74.

Sanchez's swinging strike rate hasn't been as ridiculously filthy as Osuna's, and xFIP is misleading for extreme FB pitchers.

SIERA is always the most accurate, if only marginally. 2.74 SIERA for Osuna vs... well, there are no SP/RP splits for SIERA or SwStr. That's stupid. Sanchez's was a fantastic 2.53 last year, though. So considering this year if we call it a near-tie, I'll take Osuna's 14% SwStr over Sanchez's 6.5% last year, although the ground balls add value.

tl;dr near tie, but I'll take Osuna. As an asset, purely as relievers, I'd take Sanchez because he didn't have arm issues last year

Sanchez has some fascinating numbers as a reliever. Some of it is almost certainly luck, but over the last two years among pitchers with at least 20 relief innings, he's first in average against, whip, second in ERA, and has the lowest percentage of hard hit balls against him.

I'm aware of that but hes not on the 40-man hes never pitched for the Blue Jays.

Maybe he's pissed at the Jays for not calling him up?

His SIERA is 2.47 as a reliever. His SwStr is 6.5% (yes, that includes this year)

Eugh that SwStr makes me uncomfortable

I kinda really want to see Sanchez turn into Kimbrel or something. someone pls get him some good swing and miss stuff

That's a tough one for me. I love both guys. The thing is that Sanchez's complete lack of command is maddening and suggests that he shouldn't even be pitching above AA ball except that he somehow finds it in the bullpen and it transforms him into a valuable backend bullpen guy.

However, I'm not educated much in the submetric stats thing so you'll have to forgive my admitted ignorance.

With that said, I think Sanchez has superior stuff and with the same command, I'd take Sanchez ten times out of ten. Aaron has good enough stuff that with two strikes, he continued to throw that har sinker and guys weren't hitting it even when they knew it was coming. I know it's completely ignorant to say, "well, if you'd just take away his walks." Aaron still has a lot of time to learn his release point. It takes some guys longer than others. I'm extremely hopeful that he will learn it and when he does? Jeez, if we could sign Price long term? And with how much Stroman was trying to help Sanchez and with them being good friends?

1. Price

2. Stroman

3. Osuna

4, Sanchez

5. Anyone, anyone, Bueller

That rotation has the potential to be explosive, even with Hutch as our number 5 still
